Default Labor Union Fights Liquor Store Privatization in Pennsylvania

    This is incredible.

    http://reason.com/archives/2012/12/2...store-privatiz

"If the liquor stores were privatized, the union would lose about 3,000 members and the dues payments that go with them. Those dues help fund the political activities of the union.

But Young said the real reason the liquor stores have not been privatized is because lawmakers—including many Republican lawmakers—realize it will not be a profitable move for the state."

PA has some weird alcohol laws. I wonder if alcohol use in pa is higher, lower, or the same as states with normal laws.

What's really weird: Corbett wants tp privatize the lottery. I am no fan of the lottery, but it is showing record profits for the state. The proposal being considered is not only the only proposal sought, it's not even a PA company or even a US company but a BRITISH company. Nobody seems to have a handle on the advantage of making such a change either.

There a many non-government stores in Montgomery County that sell just beer and wine. An example would be the 7-11 at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill. I can think of at least three 6-12 convenience stores that sell beer and wine. There are private wine stores all over the place.

Privatization benefits politicians. That explains the fight against transparency and the need for secrecy about lobbyists.
