Default Dietrich's Tavern in Glen Burnie: three homicides since 2009

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...tory?track=rss

What the hell is going on at this place?

Officers responded to the bar in the 7300 block of East Furnace Branch Road about 5:30 p.m. and found Sir Keith English Queen Jones, 31, fatally wounded in a side parking lot, said Lt. Glenn Shanahan, a police spokesman.
Homicide detectives were investigating. Shanahan said he did not know whether police had any leads, but no suspect was in custody Sunday night.
On Dec. 4, 2010, 30-year-old Kelly Fisher, of Glen Burnie, was fatally shot outside the bar. Clayton Battle, now 35, also of Glen Burnie, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting. His sentencing has been postponed multiple times, and is now scheduled for Jan. 8, according to court records.
On Jan. 10, 2009, 37-year-old Nathaniel Wallace, of Baltimore, was fatally shot outside the bar. Ricco Gough, now 32, of Glen Burnie, was convicted of second-degree murder and multiple gun charges in the killing in 2010 and sentenced to 50 years in prison
PS: The victim had a hell of a name.

The bar doesn't appear to be the problem. The parking lot outside the bar seems to be the dangerous place.

It's the clientele, not the establishment. The bar hasn't killed anyone.

It would seem like enough to close the place down. I would not want it near my home or business.

A real life Cheers huh? As long as it is lowlifes killing other lowlifes who cares? Problem is sooner or later a decent citizen will be caught in the crossfire.

I'm surprised. Doesn't seem like a particularly bad area to me or place. Years ago I used to go there, not to sit inside, but it was one of few places in the area where you could buy take home alcohol after midnight. Never saw anything wild going on.

Way back when there was only two reasons to go to Furnace Branch Rd. Dietrich's Tavern and Dotson's BBQ. They were right next to each other. Then years later Dotson's BBQ moved to strip mall across the street. Now they're closed and Dietrich's is all that's left of those good old days.

Maybe they need to hire some security to defuse the disputes before they end up as parking lot shootings. But that will only be effective if the disputes start in the bar. If they have started outside the bar and they are being shot there because they are known to frequent the place so the bar merely presents an opportunity to shoot them. There is not a whole lot the bar can do about that. Even if they placed an armed guard in the parking lot. It's too easy to do a drive by and you don't want that guard returning fire. They would essentially be firing into traffic and there are other businesses across the street. Video surveillance of the street and parking lot could form a deterant. Having that witness that never blinks could make it a most inopportune place to catch someone and shoot them.

You forgot Henny Macks, very good crabs and beer to be had there. On West Furnace br was "Al's Tavern" (had a huge hoot owl sign) he had a TON of collectable firearms on the wall. From what I heard that was nothing compared to his good stuff at home. Make a left on Crain Hwy from there was Clausses liquors, quiet little place with 6 bar seats in back BUT they still paid off on the pinballs well into the 70's. Nawwww, never been there.

Go way back at Crain and B&A Blvd was The Paddock Bar on one corner, Glen Lounge across the street and Greenway Bowl & Bar caddy corner to that...... Lil Tavern was 2 doors down and open well past when the bars closed.

Late 60's early 70's they would serve a 18 or 19 year old sailor in uniform beer to go.

Yes I did. I haven't been over that way in years and years. I had some friends that lived in Point Pleasant. Beer runs were to Deitrich's and food runs were to Dotson's. OMG, they had the best BBQ Chicken. I have only craved BBQ Chicken from two places. The first was Farmers Market on Ritchie Hwy and the other was Dotson's. I used to run the maid all the way to hell and gone over there to get me some. Then one day she came back empty handed saying they were out of business. Henny Mack's was usually a lil more formal outing. We usually went there when we had something to celebrate. Like a Friday night.

OMG Farmers Market on Ritchie Hwy, my cousin worked there as a kid at Orson's Meats I think it was. That place was pretty much a dump, have no idea if it still exist or not.

Early 70's there was a bar on Pennington Ave and for the life of me I can't remember what it was..... mile or 2 down from Murph's I guess in Curtis Bay. It was a good nightspot.

Wayyyyyy down Ritchie hwy was Halfway House..... on B&A Blvd was The Rhapsody.

A sentencing in one of the murders.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Ronald A. Silkworth ordered that Clayton A. Battle, 35, begin his sentence after he completes an eight-year prison term on a drug conviction.

Battle pleaded guilty last February to fatally shooting Kelly T. Fisher, a 30-year-old Glen Burnie resident, outside Dietrich's Tavern on Dec. 4, 2010. As part of that plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to seek life without parole. Battle will be eligible for parole consideration after serving 15 years of the life sentence.

On Tuesday, Battle sat slouched in his seat in court as prosecutor Kimberly DiPietro told the judge that Battle shot Fisher, then pointed his weapon at Fisher's friend, asking "you want some of this?" before firing at Fisher again.

No, the Famers Market has been gone for decades. Farmers Market's are some pretty organic places. So you can encounter some oders and even a few bugs. They have real food there. Not science projects with a 50 year shelf life. But not all of the oders are unpleasant. There was this one stall that sold rotisserie dry rub BBQ chicken. When you walked into Farmers Market the smell of that BBQ chicken would hit you in the face and make you want to swallow your tongue. I can't remember the name of the business. But I will never forget the smell of that BBQ chicken.
