    Default Tea Party

I'm in a poll mood today so I'll do one last one. What's your opinion of the Tea Party?

As an atheist I can't really say I support their platform. And being pro choice and pro gay marriage I doubt I could get support from them either. But I support emulate people being politically active and making their views known. I agree with some of their tax views and support their right to be heard and to have the MSM report their activities accurately.

    What is the tea party?

Is the tea party independent of the GOP?

    I don't think so.

I totally agree that we are Taxed Enough Already and I'll support any group that is for lower taxes and getting the mooches out of policy creation.

They see themselves as true conservatives who believe in small government, low taxes and a strict adherence to the Constitution. Tea Party members do not agree with many Republicans who spend like Democrats like Bush did.

New Poll Finds Tea Party Is Political Group That Hates Gays The Most

While Democrats came in with 68% support for same-sex marriage, Independents with 57%, and Republicans with only 30%, a mere 6% of Tea Party members said they support same-sex marriage. No other group was close to that low support level. Even Republican religious values voters (along with pro-government conservatives) came in at 11%, almost twice the rate of Tea Party Republicans.

Perhaps what many might find most-shocking is that the Tea Party, since its inception, has claimed their only concerns are smaller government and lower taxes, despite all evidence to the contrary. This certainly refocuses that claim.
I'll admit this group's headline is biased and misleading, but so much for lowered taxes and smaller government.

They say they are, but I'd have to research their voting record. That's not to say someone can't have a real change of heart and wake up to see how this country's spending habits are way out of control.

So a couple of guys who voted lockstep w an administration that took a surplus and turned it into a trillion dollar deficit are the leaders of a small-govt. and fiscally-responsible movement?

    Color me underwhelmed.

You can't pin it all on Bush either. He had a GOP congress most of his time in office and he was enabled, at the least, by many prominent GOP congressional members now, who scream about smaller deficit and less spending. Funny how they only care about it when the other guy is in office.

The tea party fiscal movement doesn't exist, because it has no one who actually practices it.

The tea party is really the GOP manipulating some well-intentioned fiscal conservatives, and exploiting the vitriol of the most racist and xenophobic strains in American life.

Not surprising since they do come from a very conservative position. But their priority is decreasing the size of the government and lowering taxes.

So according to Barney Franks, the new Tea Party congressional members are only screwing things up in Washington. He remembers a time when everyone worked together to get the job done. Is that how we accrued over $16T in debt Mr. Franks? We should just continue to work together like the old days, spending and borrowing our way to prosperity.

You say no one who actually practices is it? And who is Grover Linguist? And why since 2010 have debt ceiling increases been predicated on spending cuts? And why is the Republican dominated congress refusing to sign a bill without spending cuts? Things are starting to change in Washington. Hopefully the true fiscal conservatives will stop the spending madness before it's to late.

I went to a number of their rallies several years ago. Didn't see or hear anything that caused any concern for me. Didn't agree with everything that was said but, then again, I don't have to. They have the right to peacefully protest and voice an opinion just as the progressives exercise their right daily to smear anyone that doesn't agree with them.
