I guess you've got to hold on hope. But it looks like this story is a fizzle.

Both were prohibited persons. Previous felony convictions for him and being an unlawful user of a controlled dangerous substance for both. Dopers can’t legally possess firearms, firearm parts, and/or ammunition. That applies in all fifty states. Been the law of the land since 1968. Applies to all of you habitual drunks out there as well.

According to several reports I’ve read, both had an encounter with the police in February of 2012. In addition to finding narcotics and the materials/equipment commonly used by those engaged in drug trafficking crimes, the police also recovered a .223 caliber rifle after being advised by Mr. Greene that it was in the trunk of the car. In other words, he was a prohibited person in possession. Supposed to be a serious crime. (BTW, that was the same caliber as the black rifle used by Mr. Lanza in Connecticut, was probably semi-automatic as well and would explain the magazines found at their apartment during their latest encounter with law enforcement.) While the firearm-related crimes alone could have resulted in Mr. Greene rotting for at least a decade in prison where he probably wouldn’t be making any bombs, he was sentenced to five months in jail on a drug possession charge. Apparently a prohibited person in possession is not considered a serious problem in New York. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t give the gun back to him after he was released.

As a result of their most recent arrests, they could face charges of knowing possession of firearms, ammunition, ammunition feeding devices, etc. by a prohibited person (multiple counts), knowing possession of an unregistered NFA weapon (prohibited persons can't legally register NFA weapons), knowing possession of explosives by a prohibited person (same restrictions as firearms), making a bomb (yes, that is a federal crime), manufacturing explosives without a federal license (worth 10 years), conspiracy to violate all of the aforementioned already existing laws, etc., etc., etc, etc. There’s enough on the books to put these two away for decades if not for life. I wonder how New York and/or the U.S. Attorney will deal with them. Absolutely slam them in order to send a message to all of the other goofballs out there that may contemplate engaging in similar behavior? That would be my choice. Make excuses for the poor little misguided rich junkies who thought it was all fun and games and never intended to harm anyone? Unfortunately, they’ve already started that. Maybe lobby for a new law banning the private possession of all firearms since they obviously don’t have the balls to punish those that ignore the laws that already exist? Mayor Bloomberg is probably planning a press conference as we speak.

    It will be interesting.

People with extensive knowledge of the Occupy Wall Street movement were saying that they had never heard of Greene. They discounted a news report that he was an OWS activist.
Strange that OWS would deny knowing them once they were caught

Not just OWS but people with extensive knowledge of it. It looks like the nypost made that up to get more pagehits from people like you, LarryN and sushilover.

OWS or not they are lefties and dangerous nuts. I don't know where the got the original info to link him to OWS but that is on them. The Occupy movement is not a membership organization so there is no way for us to know if they did join to sympathize with the protesters.
There may be some social media evidence but I think their accounts were closed.
No mea culpas from me are required.
I am sorry that you feel the need to defend the failed OWS crew.

Haven't you heard of the Calamari Hypocrite Creed?

"Anyone (racists, criminals, rednecks, white terrorists, etc) who shows up at a Tea Party Rally or has ever registered as a Republican is a True Representative Of The Ideology, and the leadership of said Party must own it. Conversely, at any liberal, Democrat, OWS, Communist or other rally where such rabble may gather, anyone who commits a crime, defecates in public, spits on a military officer, rapes, uses drugs, or otherwise demonstrates like behavior, is either 1) not part of the group, 2) fringe elements, or 3) planted by the Koch bros."

Did police not find a cache of explosives and weapons in the Greenwich Village apartment?

Not to mention when it bought the "Go back to Iraq!" fake hate crime which (of course) turned out to be just an ol' fashioned Muslim honor killin'.

Didn't you know that everyone at OWS gatherings know everyone else at OWS gatherings? They have sign-in sheets apparently, so they can know everyone involved. Or maybe they have to show photo ID or something.
