Good move? Bad move? Irrelevant move?

Obviously, there's some head coaches that are just of higher quality, who impel their players to perform at a level other coaches wouldn't. But I do think that in the final analysis, the talent level of your team will dictate whether you win or lose more often that not. I don't think Reid is a horrible coach but even in his best years, he still couldn't win the big game when he had his best rosters. It takes a strong desire and love for an organization to motivate your players to perform beyond their limitations and I think Reid lost that part of himself towards the end. We'll see if a new beginning will create a spark for him and the rest of the coaches moving around. And don't forget about Mike Holmgren...he might be back in the mix too.

Doesn't matter who the coach is if they can't get someone to play quarterback at the most basic level.

NFL coaches are an olde boy network.

I hire your son, you hire my brother.

Some guys are considered blue chip coaches and have losing records or never won a SB.

Look at how many head coaches who are fired and immediately get non head coaching jobs with other teams.

    Exactly.

(And YET...NO ONE seems to be seriously interested in Brian Billick. And with the hiring of Andy Reid, who I doubt was a cheap, and definitely was not a young hire, those 2 excuses go out the window as well.)

My guess on the BB situation:

BB is a very smart guy and many owners don't like guys who are smarter than them.

Plus BB is no kid and is not desperate to be a yes man in a loser organization.

Hmmmmm...so owners of billion dollar + franchises are looking for dumb head coaches. I had no idea. Thanks.

Jerry Jones comes to mind. Maybe not dumb head coaches, but ones that will accept is ultimate "authority".

Now that's totally different. A typical "yes" man. That's entirely possible/probable.

I don't think the problem is that Billick is too smart for owners. He is too condescending with how he uses his intelligence for many people. Calling your new boss "young man" was condescending, but hardly smart.

I found his attitude humorous but I'm sure many people found it off-putting.

One of the biggest problems with leadership/ownership, is when these folks surround themselves with people who will not tell them they are wrong at times.

Many team owners don't tolerate deviation from the ivory tower office of the owner.

The downfall of many US Presidents, is that they surrounded themselves with people who would rarely tell them they are wrong.

    Nixon - Watergate
    Kennedy/Johnson - Vietnam
    George Bush - Iraq
Obama - selecting less than qualified appointees

    I agree.

However, I think Andy Reid is the expection. He is a good coach that I think could get a team to the Superbowl. It just didn't happen in Phili for him.

And you need some decent blocking as well.

There has to be a very good reason why Billick was never hired again as a head coach. After all, he did win a SB in Baltimore but yet still no interest. The reason: he lost his team; he lost control. Billick's biggest problem was that he was his own worst enemy. His pompous, righteous attitude just didn't stick well with the owner and rightfully so. The NFL is an old boy network. Once the word gets out, and with Billick, it got out, you're coaching days are finished.

I doubt seriously he is being considered.

One of the things that BB does best is talk. And the way I see it, he's already in the ideal job for him -- sports analyst/broadcaster; and sometimes guest lecturer/speaker.
