I'd love to see guys like Chris Chritie, Jeb Bush and John Kasich (the few sane ones still left) go off and do their own thing, independent of the party. The GOP is too far gone for them to take the party back, so it's just time to leave it and start anew.

He said that Bloomberg has flatly refused to delegate city funds, or push for state funds to protect NYC. Apparently, Corzine and Christie said whatevs as well.

You know why? Because they KNOW the federal government will bail them out with such a disaster that garners such national attention. That was the lesson of Katrina. Sit back and let disasters happen. I'm not commenting on whether that's a good idea or not from a state's perspective, but the fact is, it's true that states have zero incentive to spend millions or billions to protect themselves.

Look, of COURSE Christie and King have to start raising heck. If they didn't, it would be political suicide.
FWIW, People in NY and NJ contribute far more in tax revenue to the Federal government than people in Louisiana

They also have some of the highest State tax rates in the country. I'm not sure that telling them to go pound sand is the right way to go...

Nobody wants to put a leash on government spending.
The ones that do obstruct are so villified, they eventually cave, or the "leadership" punishes them for trying to stand on principle. They are far too out numbered right now.

This just proves that the GOP supporters do not put country first.
To paraphrase Obama's spiritual leader Jeremiah Wright, some time the chickens need to come home to roost.

Wealth redistribution, wasteful spending, huge deficits and class warfare isn't putting country first.

It has the money for those things within its scope, which is emergency mgmt, not seed money for rebuilding.

Then shouldn't they be minding their own store first instead of sending things to Washington and begging for it to be sent back?

My favorite is Cantor. He deferred voting til there were enough votes to ensure passage of the cliff deal, then voted against it. Dollars to donuts the little pencil necked geek will be on all the talk shows beating his chest on this. What a weasel.

FEMA has already distributed more than $250 million in aid to nearly 50,000 residents following Hurricane Sandy, but, by law, can only provide rent or repair money when there is damage to a home’s living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and occupied bedrooms.
