We were all packing finger six shooters back then. Never had to relaod. Always had plenty of ammo. Once it a while it was debatable as to who go who first. I used to fan my thumb when I was feeling like Billy the Kid or Bat Masterson. Those were some fine times, wern't they?

As far as doing it during class, I didn't know many teachers that let you get away with anything they said not to do more than one time. A lick of the old yard stick cured you of that habit right quick. No need to bug hard working moms and dads about that kind of stuff unless the teacher though you deserved another whack when you got home. But it usually wasn’t a problem because we knew the difference between what flew in the school yard and what crashed in the classroom. The occasional problem got solved on the spot and then life went on. Anyway, nobody ever got suspended over stuff like that. Suspension was for serious stuff and serious stuff didn’t happen until you were in high school. A police officer escorting a first or second grader from a classroom in hand cuffs would have started a revolution.

I'm constantly told we live in enlightened times and that the 1940-50s I grew up in were terrible times in comparison. We were so backwards then, wern't we? We didn't even realize that growing up was supposed to be a life threatening experience.
The 80s weren't so bad..instead of playing "Cowboys" we played "V", and we'd shoot the aliens with our "laser guns" AKA fingers.

6-Year-Old Expelled for Bringing Toy Gun to School.

The McKinneys can appeal the ruling to the district board, and they say they plan to do that.

Naomi has been out of school for 30 days and has received no home instruction. Sumter Board of Trustees Chairman Keith Schultz told us the board is planning to review the district's weapon policy. They'll hear an appeal if the McKinneys file one.

Maybe if he tried to roll the drawing up and smoke it, but otherwise a drawing is a drawing, and as far as I know it's not illegal to draw a plant. Personally, if I could draw I'd go for naked women over vegitation (there'd be hell to pay for that too, I imagine, because it probably is illegal draw pitcures of naked babes while on school property) but that's just me. I mean if I had a choice between a poke and a toke, well...

Couldn't the teacher have confiscated the toy gun and then had a word or two with the kid's parents later? Kids shouldn't be bringing toys to school but kids are kids and you can pretty much depend on them to do what thye are not supposed to do at least a couple of times before enough brain cells rub together and produce enough mental friction to arrive at a concept that would be reflexive in most adults.
