This incident rocked Dundalk so I thought I get to the bottom of it with a PIA (Public Information Act).

This sets the record straight and stops the finger pointing.

Buzz, first of all Congrats on the column. It was researched as well as it was written. I think the officers tried to show respect for his life. But he just wasn't accepting of that respect. This obviously wasn't a shoot first and ask questions later situation. Deadly force wasn't used until it became necessary.

Wizard777, thank you for the kind words.

The father made a comment this morning and he is having a problem with the article. Some people just can't deal with it not matter what the truth is. That is why I tried to cover all the bases. It still left doubts with the father.

Imagine how the officers felt going through this knowing they did what they were trained to do. The father wanted to know if Mr. Lopez got possession of the officers weapon.

By that time it would have been too late for the police.

Families & loved ones rarely accept it- it just has to be someone else's fault. Its just human nature, you just kind of have to make allowances for them to deal with their grief.

Saticon3 I can understand that, however to grieve and vilify seemed to get mixed up.
