Hiring hundreds of thousands of taxpaying workers? Buying supplies and infrastructure which supports countless ancillary companies?

I'm sure that happens all the time, but what you describe sounds more like our own government rather than corporate. Even with the brakes they get, corporate ultimately has to answer to the bottom line. Thats why so many of these government supported projects in areas like wind, solar, electric cars, etc..get massive tax dollar welfare, yet they still continue to go out of business.

Giving an established industry tax breaks to locate in a given county or state is often a win situation, which is why states compete for them. Thats welfare that has actual tangible returns.

Social welfare is an important part of any solid society, but instead of a fiscal return, it often creates a dependency on government thats generational, and in many ways it's pandering and self serving only to the pols and government itself..

I doubt it's a consideration for folks in that situation. I don't get your point, or how it negates mine in any way.

Do you dispute the post you're replying to?

I know that in our community, Allison got breaks to locate here in White Marsh. Not only were other Maryland counties bargaining for that site, surrounding states were as well. The tax breaks offered brought (at opening) 350 high paying jobs to this area. They are expanding.

Do you think theres no overall benefit to that, or that concessions were a mistake? I'm not saying it's pretty, having jurisdictions fight to see who can entice corporations to locate, but thats how it works. And I don't see how the net result is a negative.

I'm willing to listen and concede if you can explain otherwise.

I'm here to enjoy the debate. If you can't refute the points made in a given post, save your energy.

I'm more than willing to defend or explain my opinions. I even accept that I may be off-base, and a different view is welcome. No big deal, as this is a fun diversion.

I'm struggling to take you seriously. Show me your A game.

But I like the sort of diversion Tarentino offers. Does that make me a bad person?

I try to force myself to laugh in uncomfortable situations, I like dark humor, and at 48, I enjoy violent video games on my PC. Foul language and insults? Bring it with wit and thought, and I'm OK with it. I have a couple of guns and have been collecting knives for decades. If I think it's cool, I don't care what anyone else thinks. I drive an impractical sports car and shoot crossbow bolts off my dads deck.

I have several guitars and one of my hobbies is high end scale models.

My mom is suffering from Alzheimer's and lives her life in a hospital bed in my dads kitchen, and you'd be surprised at the laughter and good times that comes from that room.

oh god, busted! musicmd is right, I have been drinking! sorry for the ramble...
