Default Steven Soderbergh: Every Studio Rejected Liberace Film as 'Too Gay'

    http://tv.yahoo.com/news/steven-sode...011822449.html

"The upcoming "Behind the Candelabra" has Michael Douglas in a compulsively watchable performance as the celebrated pianist, Matt Damon as his young lover and Soderbergh directing. It comes, in other words, from a trio of A-listers. So why isn't it a theatrical release?
"Nobody would make it. We went to everybody in town," the "Traffic" and "Ocean's 11" director told TheWrap on Friday, at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "We needed $5 million. Nobody would do it.""

I certainly would have liked to see Matt Damon as Liberace's young lover. Wish I had $5 million. But surely Matt Damon and Michael Douglas have $5 million. THey should make the film themselves.

The article says the film will premiere in the Spring, so apparently the rejection by "every studio" has not stopped it from happening. It looks to me as though this article is basically drumming up public support for the film by playing on the "poor oppressed rejected gay" theme, which is becoming today's version of playing the race card.

It's the GOP way of making themselves feel good about their hatred of whatever group the topic happens to be about. This time it's researcher saying "look, Hollywood hates the gays too" ...That's the short of it.

The GOP now controls what movies people go see? You mean all those right wingers in Hollywood like Speilberg put the kabosh on this? More likely market research showed it would have been a flop. Green is what counts out there not Gay.

Yeah. It's pretty transparent, isn't it.

No, they don't. Still doesn't stop researcher from trying to validate his own feelings...

You inferred that somehow the GOP was behind the lack of financial backing in LaLa Land for this movie. Who are those awful right wingers behind that plot? Speilberg, Katzen, Geffen, Weinstein?

Sure you did. Your response to...

"It's the GOP way of making themselves feel good about their hatred of whatever group the topic happens to be about."

    Was.. "Yeah. It's pretty transparent"

Is the rejection of this film a liberal Hollywood response, or do you think it's a GOP response?

My guess is that fake arse values go out the window if theres a threat to profit and marketability.

Maybe you should read what I actually wrote instead of making things up. You guys are just pulling a dishonest straw man argument here, so who cares?

    How dare U!!

We should CARE cuz it's mainstream media fodder!! Your MK1 MOD0 diversion from what matters to anyone not of the once Four, now Five, Fool Groups: politicians, corporatchiks, media moguls, entertainers, terrorists.

You are hereby directed to "Google" audio of Ringo's version of "I'm a Fool to Care."
