    Default Osemele at LG

Osemele: Of the moves in the offensive line shuffle, moving an occasionally-brilliant RT to LG was the most concerning. After 1 game against what was admittedly pedestrian competition, it’s clear the tools are there for KO to have an outstanding career. He thoroughly dominated his matchups inside and moved the DTs with solo blocks on a number of occasions. Here is the list of run blocks where I don’t think my system is fully valuing his effort:

(Q1, 12:05) Drove Lawrence Guy to the inside to create the hole for Rice’s 4-yard run
(Q1, 11:34) Moved to L2 and blocked Angerer
    (Q1, 11:02) Maintained a L2 block on Angerer for 2-3 seconds on Rice’s fumble
(Q1, 3:41) Maintained a play-long block on Antonio Johnson that pushed him several yards away from Rice’s run left
(Q1, 0:14) Drove back Guy several yards as Pierce ran left for 6 yards
(Q2, 15;00) Drove back Guy 4 yards where he eventually got partial tackle credit on Pierce’s 5-yard conversion
(Q2, 13:49) Drove Guy 3 yards back before slipping off. Guy maintained his feet and took down Pierce for a gain of 5.
(Q2, 12:30) Dropped NT Tevaseu with an outstanding cut block on Pierce’s 18-yard run right
(Q2, 2:18) Pinned Matthews for McKinnie then moved to L2 and cut down Fokou on Rice’s run right
(Q2, 0:55) Pancaked Tevaseu inside. Combined with McKinnie’s pancake of Guy, this left Leach with some uncluttered space to overpower Angerer at the goal line for the Ravens’ first TD.
(Q3, 0:44) Pushed across the formation with a L2 block on Freeman on Rice run right
(Q4, 14:27) Kicked out Guy 6-8 yards to clear space for Rice’s 18-yard run which would end with a fumble.
(Q4, 9:59) Drove Guy several yards on Rice run left for no gain.
(Q4, 2:10) Drove Freeman almost to the left sideline before shoving him hard at the whistle
    (Q4, 2:03) Pancaked Angerer in L2
Those are 15 of the Ravens 29 running plays. The Ravens had remarkably limited success running to his side, but that wasn’t a function of him. As a pass blocker, Osemele shared a QH by Matthews when he was beaten outside. On that play, Bethea had a free run from the ORS that forced Flacco to absorb the hit from Matthews. He registered 10 level 2 blocks and 4 pancakes. Scoring: 53 snaps, 50 blocks, 2 missed, 1/2 QH, 48.5 points (.92 per play). That would be an A without adjustment, but this is a case where he deserved a significant positive upgrade for run-blocking quality. A+, which is only the 2nd I have assigned this season (Yanda, week 4 vs. Cleveland).

I could be entirely wrong, but I think it's only a matter of time until the Osemele is recognized as their best OL (along with Yanda), and starts playing LT.

I think K.O. is a disaster waiting to happen at tackle. I think he can be a Pro Bowl Guard

What makes you feel that way? He's got great size and speed for his bulk, and very long arms.

He struggles with speed rushers. Did you see Mathis blow by him early in the game? And you want to put him on the QB's blind side where defenses play their best pass rusher?

This is the starting OL that should have been on the field from day one.Their stubbornness over insisting that Oher play LT has gone on far too long.

Heard an interview with Ellerbe the other day and he said the difference in his game now and in the past is how much better he is at film study. It was apparent from the beginning he had talent but he could not get on the field. Everyone said it was because he was in Harbaugh's "dog house". Yet it appears Harbaugh forced Ellerbe to study hard and it made him a better player.

By all accounts (except Preston's) McKinnie had been dogging it most of the year at practice. He said he had a hip injury which seems like it could be an excuse. Anyway Harbaugh said McKinnie has picked it up and practiced well the last couple weeks and now he is playing.

Everyone thinks Harbaugh is wrong for having his "doghouse" but it seems he insists his guys practice hard, studyhard or sit on the bench. In the end this seems to make them better players.
