Default Harford Leadership Academy: $675 for Whites, FREE for non-whites!

Is this what is meant by the racism of lower expectations?

    http://www.myupperchesapeake.com/art...9bb2963f4.html

The program is co-sponsored by Harford Community College and Harford County Chamber of Commerce. Enrollment is generally limited to thirty-six adult participants.

The cost of the Academy is $675 per person, payable upon notification of acceptance. The SBDC offers a full scholarship to a small business owner/operator that meets SBA definition for minority business (African-American, Alaska Native, American Indian, Asian, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian/ other Pacific Islander.)

Indian Americans are the highest-income and best-educated people in the United States and the third largest among Asian Americans who have surpassed Latinos as the fastest-growing racial group, according to a new survey.

Asians as a whole too are better educated and earn more than the general US population, according to the Pew Research Centre report on "The rose of Asian Americans" released Tuesday.

Indians, who now number 3.18 millions, the third largest after the Chinese (4 million) and the Filipinos (3.4 million) have a median household annual income of $88,000, much higher than for all Asians ($66,000) and all US households ($49,800).

It's probably an attempt to make up for past racial exclusion or make Harford County's leadership groups more diverse. It's an outreach effort. Besides, scholarships are available for anyone who can show need and it's only $675 bucks, so stop complaining.

Indeed. I see the oppressed driving new BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, Lexuses, Jaguars, even a Bentley, everyday in the Woodlawn camoonity. Sad these oppressed people are forced to live like that.

Hmmm giving the OP link a full read I don't think this is the targeted population regardless of race. It is to help Harford County with leadership and hoping people will join their effort. They are soliciting support from the minority business community per the scholarship qualifications.

    From the OP link:
The Leadership Academy is designed to create a committed, involved, and diverse network of leaders within Harford County by exposing existing and emerging leaders the county to community challenges and growth opportunities. HLA graduates benefit from a communications network between present and future community leaders and are encouraged to take an active role in the growth and transformation of Harford County

"You know why they call it community college? ‘Cause anybody in the community can go. Crackhead, prostitute, drug dealer—come on in.

Community college is like a disco with books. ‘Here’s ten dollars, let me get my learn on.’”

You do realize the role community colleges play in facilitating the well being of their local communities and how they partner with established organizations like the Chamber? Do you think this is a for credit course or a county leadership development and coordination effort?

From the OP link which I am wondering if everyone has read. Not you but others. Just to help others with clarification.

The program is co-sponsored by Harford Community College and Harford County Chamber of Commerce. Enrollment is generally limited to thirty-six adult participants.
Can the same folks you identify join and become full members of the Chamber?

If one follows the Winds of Leadership link within this link:
    http://www.harford.edu/hla/

You will find the various levels of sponsorship available for the Leadership Academy so who and how was the conclusion reached that the scholarship came from tax dollars or for that matter that the academy is sponsored in full or part by tax dollars?

Spot, I was thinking the same thing.

Years ago, I was taking a course in educational psychology. The professor was explaining that black students scored lower than whites on standardized test because of culturally biased questions. I asked does that mean the tests are biased in favor of Asians because they have the best scores. The professor didn't like my question and quickly moved on.

I am all for Harford developing future leaders. But the best way might be more outreach not a give away. In most cases a person will get more out of a program if they have some skin in the game.

Examine the criteria and ethnicities the scholarship has as a criteria and some might say they already have skin in the game and the county would them to share business/corporate experience.
