Default Frederick County Sheriff's deputies kill Frederick man

According to Howard County Police, Vail was wanted in connection with a home invasion in Mt. Airy on Jan. 8, during which three masked men, one of whom had a shotgun, attempted to force their way into a residence located in the 600 block of Long Corner Road in Mt. Airy.

A Frederick County man wanted in connection with a Jan. 8 home invasion in western Howard County was fatally shot early Thursday morning by members of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office Special Services Team serving a Howard County search warrant, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Daniel Vail, 19, of the 4800 block of Westwind Drive, was shot numerous times after he confronted members of the special services team with a shotgun around 1 a.m. inside his two-bedroom apartment.

Suicide by cop. One less dirt ball.

Happy to hear the cops went home safe.

“Daniel was a nice little kid and there was nothing wrong with him and he was not a threat,” said a man who said he was Vail’s uncle but declined to be identified.

Was law enforcement the only witnesses? Disturbing story.

Well, I guess maybe they should take in a team of unbiased observers on their raids then.

There was another witness. Unfortunately, he decided to point a shotgun at the officers and ended up dead as a result. Probably wasn't a good idea.

It's up for debate. There is nothing in the report stating that they had an arrest warrant. It makes a great deal of difference if they had a proper arrest warrant or not. You do have the right to resist an unlawful arrest.

Long corner road is not in Howard county
Here is the problem. The WJLA story indicates an outstanding unrelated Howard County warrant

"Vail was a suspect in a home invasion robbery. In that incident on Long Corner Road, which police believe was drug related, three masked men with a baseball bat and shotgun allegedly tried to rob four people. Sources say the victims recognized Vail's voice as one of the suspects and police acted on an arrest warrant. The sheriff's office stated that at about 1 a.m. Thursday, deputies served a warrant in the 4800 block of Westwind Drive in Mt. Airy. The warrant was related to a Howard County home invasion and robbery.

So they don't have an arrest warrant for the case they are working. They are bootstrapping on an unrelated warrant form another jurisdiction. This raises the issue of the lawfulness of the arrest tactics. The search warrant was delivered after the incidents occurred.

Sure he was a good boy who was kilt by those fascist police. The police did not id themselves as police before they came through the door. Sure.

It says they had a search warrant for his home and were executing it. So, they had legal right to enter and search and can overcome any resistance with reasonable force.
So, you're saying its ok to confront them with a shotgun while they are executing a search warrant on his home?

That is incorrect. Long Corner Road is almost entirely in the western part of Howard County.

The 600 block of Long Corner Road is in Howard County. It's near the intersection of Long Corner Road and Frederick Road about a mile east of the Carroll County/Howard County border. Long Corner Road is a north/south road. It begins at Frederick Road just west of Lisbon in Howard County and ends at Route 108 just east of Damascus in Montgomery County. Most of the homes in that part of Howard County have a Mt. Airy mailing address since that's the post office that services the area.

    Here's an idea.....

If you are innocent, don't point a shotgun at a bunch of cops with their weapons drawn....

Try to rationalize all you want, but the fact is this idiot decided to point a weapon at law enforcement. They are within their rights to defend themselves, just as you or I would be within our rights to defend ourselves against the threat of being shot.

anyone do a case search on this chior boy?

Depends on who's story you buy into.

Frederick County sheriff's deputies fired at least 18 rounds at a Mount Airy man they killed while serving a search-and-seizure warrant last week, according to court documents obtained Monday by The Frederick News-Post.

18 shots so what? After the first 3 or 4 he did not feel a thing. How many Deputies were shooting? If 3 or 4 that only comes out to about 5 or 6 per Deputy. Considering they probably had semi autos that held 15 in a clip does not seem to be overreacting.
