Default "Dwyer opens up on his drinking and recovery"

Well ~ as "open" as one can be when having to have someone to check with before saying anything in a interview.

It seems that one of the two things that caused Delegate Dwyer to increase his drinking was because he “felt betrayed by longtime allies in the State House…

If that really is the case ~ then he definitely needs to step down, especially after having been reassigned from the Judiciary Committee just recently.

    From the Maryland Gazette ~

Dwyer says he felt sold out when Dels. Tiffany Alston, Wade Kach and Bob Costa voted for same-sex marriage, an issue he spent years crusading against. Dwyer told reporters one day before the vote that he had enough support to block the bill.

Kach, a Republican from Baltimore County, and Alston, a former Democrat from Prince George’s County, voted against the bill in committee. But Kach changed his vote after hearing testimony from gay couples. Alston shifted her vote after her amendment was adopted. Kach and Costa, of Deale, were the only two House Republicans to vote for the bill. It passed the House by two votes in February.

    ...

“That betrayal really affected me,” he said. “I was physically ill. You pour your heart into an issue like that and it’s devastating.”

Is it a good idea to continue working in a position that causes one to affected in such a way? I wouldn't think so.

Blaming gay marriage for becoming a booze hound? That's low. Blame the guy in the mirror Don!

Just when you think a guy could not lose any more respect he opens his mouth.
    What a jerk

Wade Kach is pure class. Thanks Wade.

I recall some rumors about his separating from his wife, but that's the first I think it's been substantiated.

The Maryland Juice site reported that a while back.

What I found perhaps most pathetic is the excuse that the delegate gave for walking out on his own marriage while basing almost his whole political schtick on family values and fighting against gay marriage ~

He married so young...at the age of what...24?

Sorry legislator ~ but that is no excuse for one who acts as if he is a defender of marriage and family values.

You have a problem with math? 16+6=22 Not 24.

Tell me, burnie. Are you commenting on this dead thread because you want to keep a thread that you opened alive or is that you hate every republican in the state? Why don't you just change affiliation and be done with it?

How can you say that he "walked" out on his marriage? Nowhere in the article does it state that. You don't know, period. It could very well have been her who asked for the split and he could have been blindsided by the entire situation. Again, you don't know.

"He doesn’t want to discuss what caused the separation with Cheryl, his wife of 31 years.

He was 16 years old when they met. Both attended Marley Junior High School, and they dated for six years before marriage.

He only says they were unable to live together anymore."

You can reply to this post but you'll never get another response from me on this thread. It was a floundering duck from the get go. "Nuff said and let the blabbering begin." At least when you're responding back to me, you're sparing your poor husband from your perfection.

    54 minus 31 = ?

I gave the delegate the benefit of the doubt, give or take a few months.

Regardless of what you say ~ I know you'll be looking forward to and reading my posts. You always have and always will.

So Dwyer was so distracted thinking about gay sex that he crashed his boat into some kids. Ok. Yeah, run with that one.

He said two events caused his drinking to increase:

First, he separated from his wife in November 2011.

Second, he felt “betrayed” by longtime allies in the State House.

“I felt a tremendous amount of pressure in my family,” he said. “You take those personal issues (and) add betrayal on the professional side, and it really gets to be overwhelming.”
I think any person who has had a marriage come apart can empathize with him.

That would probably depend on the reasons a marriage comes apart and what occurred to cause it to fail. Those circumstances could seem particularly odious when one's career is seemingly based on preserving marriage and family values by tryng to prevent others who want to be married from doing so based on whether they are gay or not.

According to this Facebook post by Delegate Dwyer, he does not plan to give up his seat in 2014, in fact, he's planning to run for re-election in 2014: https://www.facebook.com/dondwyerjr/...tal_comments=3

Don Dwyer: Dear Friends, at this point I have every intention of running in the 2014 election to retain my seat in the House of Delegates. Unfortunately the media continues to misrepresent me.

It makes sense his marriage fell apart, if he thinks about gay sex so much it causes him to crash his boat.
