Default Big Pharma Forge Partnerships with Top Schools

In their quest for the next big drug discovery, pharmaceutical companies are increasingly teaming up with some of the nation's top universities, recruiting campus scientists as partners and offering schools multimillion-dollar deals to work on EXPERIMENTAL DRUGS in development.

Big Pharma has long sought to profit from academia's innovations in more limited arrangements. Now the two sides are often joining forces as equals. But the drug makers' aggressive pursuit of university research has drawn the ire of academic purists who question whether the partnerships put profits ahead of, or on equal footing with, science for science's sake.

This video provides the facts about psychotropic drugs and the huge profits they create for the pharmaceutical industry. These drugs are not safe and have not been on the market long enough to provide sufficient long term studies regarding their effects. These drugs do cause addiction, however most "doctors" would call this dependence because you do not have to take an increasing dose over time. They are completely fine with you being addicted to the same amount of any given drug on a daily basis. Over half of the people that commit suicide in the United States are prescribed to psychotropic drugs. (Ex: Paxil (Paroxetine), Zoloft (Sertraline), Prozac, Wellbutrin (Bupropion), Effexor, Seroquil, Ultram (Tramadol), etc.)

    OXYCONTIN MEMORIAL DAY
Few “legal” drugs have created the type of death and destruction as OxyContin. Started in 1992 by the Sackler family, Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of OxyContin, wanted to create a sustained release product that would compete with Percocet and other narcotics. They did this by developing a sustained version of oxycodone and named it OxyContin. Unlike the other major drug companies, Purdue Pharma remains a privately owned company and is not required to make the same disclosures as the publicly owned companies.

However, the criminal case against Purdue Pharma brought by U.S. Attorney Brownlee uncovered documents where Purdue Pharma clearly revealed that they were in business to make money, and this was far more important than the lives of people. It was simple for these amoral people. The only way that they could make money was to sell large quantities of OxyContin. The problem was that Percocet and many of the other narcotics that contained oxycodone or its near cousin hydrocodone also contained acetaminophen—a drug used to relieve pain and the main ingredient in Tylenol. The problem with acetaminophen is that large doses can cause liver cancer.
However, OxyContin contained oxycodone, legal heroin. Obviously, somehow medical professionals must be convinced that this was really not as addictive as heroin or many would not prescribe it.

    Mommypotamus?

Now why does that bring to mind a picture of bipedal panniculus crapping out products of conception on full auto?

BTW, the private sector has provided funding for university researches for a not insignificant period of time.
