Default Md Sun Gun Poll results

Do you agree with these results?

The poll of 800 registered voters, taken by the Annapolis-based firm OpinionWorks and released to The Baltimore Sun, shows overwhelming majorities favor banning the sale of assault weapons in Maryland and limiting the number of bullets a gun's magazine can hold.

So let's see a majority of those polled favor a ban right after a shooting happened? No way? Really?

I wonder if a poll of 800 registered voters in Allegheny, Garrett, and Washington County would get the same results.

They probably avoided asking the crowd at the Timonium Fairgrounds yesterday as well.

Do you have a link to the poll results or a news story about it?

There are two issues here, banning "assault weapons" and limits on the number of bullets in a magazine. How can your poll simply be a yes or no answer? Perhaps a person agrees with one issue but not the other.

But Del. Michael Smigiel Sr., an Eastern Shore Republican and gun rights advocate, said the numbers show the public's lack of understanding of their Second Amendment rights.

"People are too easily willing to give up rights under the false pretense they're gaining some safety," Smigiel said.

O'Malley is expected to propose a package of bills crafted to address gun violence, possibly including an asssault weapons ban, school safety proposals and expanded mental health services.
I would agree with Delegate Smigiel. Polls are biased based on numbers
and who is polled and where poll is conducted.

That's not what Del. Smigiel was saying. He didn't say anything about the poll being biased, but about Marylanders' not understanding their constitutional rights and how Maryland defines an assault weapon.

I've said the same thing about very poll ever conducted. Of course this is Maryland so that one might not be too far from actuality

    The Delegate is correct:
""People are too easily willing to give up rights under the false pretense they're gaining some safety," Smigiel said."

This kneejerk reaction of banning "assault weapons" and "high" capacity magazines will not prevent criminals getting guns nor will it affect the gun violence in places lilke Baltimore City.

"Assault weapons" are virtually no part of the gun violence and murder rate.

Maryland voters are proven to believe in the irrational notion that every problem can be solved by more government regulation and intervention. The belief that lawbreakers will be deterred by laws is just wishful thinking.

We have to remember. These are the same people who voted to re-elect Jimmy Carter to a 2nd term. Sometimes you just can't defend them from themselves.

Polls schmolls. Truth is, no one outside the military needs an assault rifle to protect family and property. I am ex-military. I know of what I speak.

You can be ex whatever you want, but you don't get to decide what someone else feels they need for protection.

If you really meant AR-15 and not "assault rifle (M-16), then go convince the store owners that protected their property with AR-15 type rifles during the Rodney King riots.

What are your thoughts on the Remington 700? It's a lot like the sniper rifle used by the military.

Riots are a different situation with a high number of aggressors. I'm talking everyday protection for homeowners or any individual who feels threatened by intruders.

The Remington 700 is a hunting rifle. Can never have enough protection against violent deer and bear. I still prefer a handgun for personal protection - less wielding...plus it won't mess up the walls as much.

Better than being an ex-nothing like yourself. How do you like other people serving your country for you?

So those people should wait until the riot is happening to purchase the protection they need?

Maybe a little late at that time, ya think?

I served 8 years including 3 in the 82nd Airborne division. Do you ever tire of looking like an idiot?
