    Default Where does Flacco rank?

By now, we've all heard Flacco's agent claim he is a top five guy at QB. Brees, Rodgers, Peyton, Brady and Big Ben are the most obvious past benchmarks he had to overcome but the game is shifting to a more mobile QB prototype. After Saturday, I'd like to anoint him to top five status but I wonder what his real value is. Would SF trade Colin K for him right now? How about Indy/Luck or Seattle/Wilson.

Joe's style really seems to lend itself to keeping him healthy and this bodes well for the next contractual commitment the Ravens will need to make but the shifting sands of the game could make the team play an atypical style versus the competition.

As Manning, Brees, Ben and Brady inevitably drop off due to age and wear, Flacco could be the only pure pocket passer who ranks in the top five or ten in the coming years.

I'm curious though as to how folks really view him now. But please focus on his value to others instead of how good you feel about his place here.

Mobile QB's get hurt. Ask Vick and RGIII. The NFL might go through a phase where they draft more mobile QB's but you also need to have a good arm and be accurate, which thankfully Wilson and Griffith are. Big guys like Cam Newton might last a little longer but eventually he will have to stay in the pocket to prolong his career. So eventually, you'll always go back to pure pocket passers. They last longer.

    Brady
    Rodgers
    Brees
    Manning
    Manning
    Big Ben
    Flacco
    Ryan.

So maybe not top 5 bit he's getting there. I think the key is a good OC and Cameron certainly wasn't that. It will be very ingesting to see how thye perform the rest of the playoffs and next year.

Teams that I think would not trade their QB for Joe Flacco:

    New England
    Denver
    New Orleans
    Green Bay
    Pittsburgh
    Washington
    Indianapolis
    Seattle
    San Francisco
    New York Giants
    Atlanta Falcons

    Teams that would:

    Cleveland
    Cincinnati
    Kansas City
    Jacksonville
    Oakland
    Buffalo
    New York Jets
    Tennessee
    Miami
    San Diego
    Philadelphia
    Arizona
    Tampa Bay
    St. Louis
    Dallas
    Chicago
    Minnesota

    Not sure:
    Detroit
    Carolina

Keep in mind that this isn't necessarily about who is better. It's about who they could get for Flacco if they tried to trade him (which they won't, and shouldn't).

Consider this... if Lee Evans holds on to one stupid pass, Joe's taking the field Sunday with the chance to go to his second consecutive Superbowl.

Meanwhile, the national media is throwing a ticker tape parade for Matt Ryan in light of his first playoff win ever... one in which Pete Carroll gave Matt Bryant a second chance by going the stupid "freeze the kicker" route.

Thanks. Based on your comments, it seems we agree that Joe no longer will see comparisons to Romo, Rivers or Cutler. And I mostly agree with the list of teams you feel would prefer their current QB over Joe but I for one would rather have Joe then either Manning right now. Peyton is better but his career is almost over. I also think Joe is a higher long term value then Eli as well.

I disagree on Tampa, St. Louis, Dallas and Chicago. Carolina and Detroit are definitely in the would not list.

I was reading that He shouldn't have kicked it. Apparently you cannot kick the ball when iced if i read it correctly. So the refs essentially botched the end. Not sure what the penalty would be, but in a dome it's kind of hard to punish anyone making a kick...

    1. Brady
    2. P. Manning
    3. Brees
    4. Rodgers
    5. Roethlisberger
    6. E. Manning
    7. Flacco

When Joe wins a Superbowl he moves to #5.

I want to say the Patriots called a TO to try to "ice" Tucker back in week 3, but they kicked it anyway. The first attempt was more better than the official attempt.

Unless they call it WELL ahead of any snap, and the offense blatantly disregards the whistle, I doubt they'd enforce anything anyway. If it's egregious, I'd consider it like spiking the ball and guess "delay of game".

I'm good friends with several Tampa and Dallas fans. I can assure you they would, at the least.

The fans I know wouldn't but the teams certainly would not. Freeman I could understand but Romo is a much better quarterback despite his unclutchiness.

I don't know man, his numbers are gaudy but the one thing you can count on is that he will always f-up at the end of the game. There's a reason the Cowboys haven't made the playoffs lately despite having one of the most talented rosters in the league, top to bottom.

awww...come on now. I'm very curious. You had no problem stating Flacco was around #18 on your list

I know what 50/50 brings. From what I have seen, Griffin brings much more.
