Joe is really stepping it up of late, that is well documented. 3 weeks ago I'd have told you to look at the deal Matt Schaub got and that would be Joe's worth. Now, I'd tell you that he's worth more.
Stability at QB is hard to come by in this league. The question of just where Joe stacks up in that top 12 is fun to debate. The harder question to answer is " well, who else are we gonna get?"
My feelings on Joe have really changed over the last couple of weeks. I hope he keeps up this level of play another 2 weeks.
He is a rookie though, so let's give him a chance to heal up and see how he plays over the next five years. I would have to guess that, barring more injuries, he will be a great one!
As to Flacco, he already is a known and successful quantity.
- More wins in his first 5 seasons than any other player.
- Playoffs in each of his seasons (only Otto Graham did that)
- At least one win in each playoff run (noone has done that in NFL history)
- No (that's zero, none, nada!) missed games
The main reason that many in the national media (and obviously yourself) don't like him is because he started on a defense-oriented team that succeeded in a pass-happy NFL. The Ravens are evolving into a more offense-minded organization and Flacco's better games are coming more frequenty.
Another reason for the dislike is his obvious attitude that he cares about his teammates only - and not some well-dressed wannabe football "experts".
When you look at the young QBs in the league you see physicality, great arms, outstanding mechanics and advanced football IQs. The difference between the young crop of < 3 year QBs and Flacco is not the tools, but the accomplishments.
What is with your fan bases's stupid idea that everyone hates you? Jesus H, I am not a big fan of Flacco's compared to most of the league becuase I think he throws a decent deep ball and little more.
All the things used to convince us how good he his other than not missing a game are team stats. Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez were the two quarterbacks who have lost the AFC title games Joe hasn't lost. That's not exactly great QB company.
I think he is a perfectly decent QB. I think he can throw a nice deep ball. I think your team proved it can win some with him. Those things are all fine but don't make him any better than he is and certainly not elite.
I would say right now he is a solid #14-17 QB which is about where he should be. If you guys somehow manage to knock off the Patriots this weekend and if he has a big hand in it I could see moving him up a couple notches or so. But IMO he is what he is which is a middle of the pack QB. Not great and certainly not elite but clearly not a bum either.
Flacco is a top 10-12 QB, depending on some things.
He is becoming a really good clutch QB who makes throws when they absolutely need to be made.
That's something that people have said about Ben Roethlisberger for years, despite his ups and downs. I think people are starting to come around and realize Flacco has that knack too. He made the throw to win the AFCCG last year. It was caught for a split second and then knocked away.
Flacco can put that in cement by playing well and winning this weekend.
Easterbrook's weekly diatribe sums it up well...
"...Had positions been reversed, and Peyton Manning done what Joe Flacco did to win this game, today the sports press would be falling all over itself to say that Manning played a game for the ages. Why aren't touts saying Flacco just did that? Three touchdown passes and no interceptions in an overtime playoff victory on the road as an underdog. Manning is 9-11 on his career in postseason games, Flacco is 7-4. Yet Manning is showered with effusive praise while all Flacco ever hears is complaints. And don't bother to compare their endorsement deals!..."
"Elite" is a bogus term made up by fantasy football geeks. The NFL is a results league. Since entering the league together, Flacco and Ryan are 1 and 2 in total victories.
Why not leave it at that? No need to try to apply your prejudices.
3 AFC Championship games
again why wouldn't we ?
RG3 is a young exciting player......I enjoy watching him play.
But to says he's better than Flacco and not by a little bit but by a wide margin at this point in time is well nothing more than you being a homer. He hasn't proven anything substantial yet. I'm sorry, he has proven that he can get hurt multiple times.. Again, you lack any credibility as a knowledgeable football fan because you can't put your home team feelings aside.
enjoy watching the BALTIMORE RAVENS in the playoffs
you can always find them their led by their 18th best NFL QB Joe Flacco
who can only throw deep balls.
elite probably not, but nonetheless a damn good NFL QB
Seriously - the Redskins have had 5 winning seasons since 1996. 5. Please show some humility and shut your pie-hole for gawd's sake! The Ravens have had 10 winning seasons, won a SB and been in like 4 or 5 AFC Title games in that span.
Shut the heck up!
BTW - if RG3 doesn't come back 100%, you guys are screwed.
I'm not exactly sure where Joe rates because there are just too many factors. No one knows what he would do behind another teams offensive line, or with another teams receivers. There's just too many factors.
The guy has proven he is a winner, and that's all that matters at this point. I honestly can't think of another QB in the league right now that I'd pick over him to lead the Ravens, and that's high praise coming from me!
Go Joe, go Ravens!
