Is he serious? Marchibroda - patience or discipline? Marchibroda was the biggest choke artist that ever wore a coaching hat. The man was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too conservative and always tried not to lose instead of trying to win.

Was Preston around in 1977 when Teddy tried to sit on a 3 point lead (prevent defense) with 9 minutes to go and the "Snake" methodically worked his way down the field eating the clock with the Raiders kicking a field goal with 22 seconds to go to tie game sending it into overtime"

I was at that game. The stadium when nuts when Marchibroda went conservative and ultimately lost the game.

But by 1998 Marchibroda's time had passed and the Ravens needed someone like Brian Billick to take over. But as far as offense goes Marchibroda knew what he was doing. As a head coach, I can see what you're saying.

The missing word here is win. Marchibroda's conservative approach to the game was his downfall. With the weapons he had here in the mid-seventies with Bert Jones and company, Teddy should have taken them to the promised land. But his ever present trying not to lose conservative approach did him and the Colts in. Marchibroda was horrible.

Caldwell does not take the same approach on offense that Marchibroda did. If he did, we wouldn't be playing next week.

Aren't you missing the point of Preston's article? He's talking about coaching, Marchibroda's coaching. He's comparing Marchibroda's coaching to Caldwell's coaching of the offense. And that is where I have a problem. Caldwell didn't put the offense together.

That might be part of the issue. I stopped reading Mike Preston articles years ago. I'm only going by what you posted.
