Default Terrorist takeover BP plant in Algeria

    Americans taken hostage:

IN what could be the first spillover from France's intervention in Mali, Islamist militants attacked and occupied a natural gas complex partly operated by energy company BP in southern Algeria. Two foreigners were killed and dozens of others, including Americans, were taken hostage.

A militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in revenge for Algeria's support of France's operation against al-Qa'ida-linked Malian rebels groups far to the southeast. It said it was holding 41 foreigners, including seven Americans.

Algerian forces have surrounded the complex and the state news agency reported a bit more than 20 people were being held, including Americans, Britons, Norwegians, French and Japanese, citing the local authorities.

Likely those hostages will be dead soon. Every American in the region should either get out or carry major weaponry. American interests in the area are going to be attacked. The question is will our down low muslim president do anything about it. Typical Muslim cowardice, using humans as shields. They really are disgusting, these terrorists.

We know they will never stop. We know their intended goals; so why don't we carpet bomb the whole lot of them and make their hideouts smoking ruins. Why should we allow them to hold us hostage. We know there will be no negotiating with these evil scum bags.

Not to put words in his/her mouth, but this situation appears funny to him/her and he/she made a joke.

Panetta went on record calling this a terrorist attack against the US. Unfortunately Algiers is close to Mali. This could bring the US into another war against militant groups.

Al Qaeda doesn't tend to take hostages.

These guys may be Islamist terrorists with the same ideology as Al Qaeda but that's not the same as them actually being Al Qaeda...

It seems the story is still unfolding. For all we know they could all be dead. We were told the reason for this attack was due to French aircraft flying over Algiers in support of Mali. But now we are learning this attack was planned before the French went into Mali. I just heard the latest on CNN and provide a link when it becomes available.

The report says 'al-Qa'ida-linked Malian rebels' now whether or not that is true...

I would guess that different cells have their own agenda and modus operandi.
Or they're just name dropping and are entirely different.

If it is the guy in this report then hopefully he realizes he bit off more than he can chew and beats a hasty retreat and lets the hostages go.

A terrorist when reported by Western interest groups is the bad guy. Now I'm sure those guys see themselves as Freedom fighters. But right now I would not want to be those oil workers.

Sounds like another Benghazi misinformation SNAFU.

"Al Qaeda linked militants called the Masked Brigade or the Khaled Abu al-Abbas Brigade claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was retaliation for Algeria letting French jets use its airspace during its ongoing military operations in Mali. The news agency Agence France Presse (AFP) said it had received a telephone call from a person or persons who described themselves as hostage takers, and said, "We are members of al-Qaeda and we came from northern Mali. We belong to the[brigade] led by Mokhtar Belmokhtar."

'On their heels, defeated, (insert wishful thinking from regime hacks here)...'

Perhaps one day, the incompetents within government will realize the actuality that Qaida al Jihad is more than some nuclear organization. Of the greatest importance is Qaida as an ideology. Until the domestic regime actually hires competent people, it will continue to face the humiliation of the Qaida shoe smacking it upside the forehead.

The Feds have to do something about Youtube; this is getting ridiculous. What video caused this kinetic military action?

Will the US take part in an overseas contingency operation?

I say we unleash the drones.

    "may be Islamist terrorists"?

    May be?

Islamaphobe!! You obviously don't understand the Religion Of Peace!

"Jihad" only means "struggle" and they live in the land of candycane streets and gumdrop clouds, where children laugh and play in lush green meadows....

    Appears that some have escaped:

The report cited an Algerian security official who said that at least 20 hostages, including some American citizens and European nationals were among those who escaped. It is unclear how many remain captive.

The hostages were taken when Islamic militants attacked the plant in eastern Algeria early Wednesday.

Typical reaction. Trying to use an ongoing crisis with American lives at stake to make a cheap partisan jab. One that made very little sense at that. Very nice.
