Default Bail Bonds Signs in Towson

    why the outrage
If the state wants more section 8 housing in Baltimore County they need to expect businesses to move in and cater to the changing clientele.
We should start to see more bail bonds businesses, lake trout, check cashing here and pawn shops in Towson if the residents in the city who frequent those places in the ghetto have the government pay for them to move into section 8 housing in Towson

I didn't see anything in the article about Section 8 housing.

Nothing at all, he's speaking about the businesses in his area and the population that surrounds them.

I'm sure people who don't live in section 8 housing get arrested all the time and need the services of a bailbondsman. I don't like the gaudy signs.

In the face of a groundswell to remove what community members say is extravagant signage advertising bail bonds businesses in Towson, Councilman David Marks said Thursday, Jan. 17, that he was considering sponsoring legislation to ban the signage.
Says a guy that can't get hired without littering Towson with excessive signage. When it comes time for Mr. Marks to conduct his business and make his appeal to the masses for patronage. He is going to do his damnedest to make his business name, Reelect David Marks, omnipresent and inescapable. He's going to do everything in his power to make sure you see Reelect David Marks 10, 100, or 1,000 times a day every single day until his business is concluded.

So I think this is the first thing that needs to be discussed. Is freedom, in this case freedom of expression, now a privilege reserved entirely to the elected? I would like to see Mr. Marks try to conduct his business, Reelect David Marks, with one six square foot sign. No flashy colors or anything else that might make it stand out and be noticeable. They need to be something that is nondescript and blends into the background like a wallflower.

Are landlords forced to rent to section 8 tenants?

I wonder why the bail bondsmen decided to locate there.

The newest sign at Bail Bonds Inc. was made possible by Marks' decision during the Comprehensive Zoning Map Process last summer to up-zone the property on Virginia Avenue from a mix of residential and home office zoning to part of the downtown Towson core. The councilman said "there was a good reason for upzoning," citing development on the other side of the property.

But since the zoning was changed, Bail Bonds Inc. moved from a storefront on Chesapeake Avenue to the Virginia Avenue location and erected the new sign.
    Oops!

"There's sometimes unintended consequences with these things, and I'm trying to correct it," Marks said.
No kidding. I’m sure glad we have people like David Marks around to protect us.

I know. I've been there. Fortunately, my visits were always voluntary. I was speaking about the decision of that business to locate at that particular property and erect the sign in question. It appears as though the zoning change had something to do with that.

So what? Isnt rule number one for ANY politician to get elected and then reelected? Did you mind seeing My friend Ben commercials on TV last October and November ad nauseum?

If you run a bail bonds company, wouldn't you want to advertise near the county courthouses and jail?

    Why do you hate capitalism?

Of course the op left out the fact that this was the relocation of an existing business, not a new business.

Considering the source, I'm not at all surprised

If the County is in the business or arresting people and using bail bonds to free them why would they be upset about the proliferation of bail bond companies?

It appears you are upset, over a relocation of an existing business.
