Default Baltimore police officer indicted on crack, heroin, pot charges

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...,4818572.story

A federal grand jury indicted a Baltimore police officer Friday on charges that he was involved in a conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana.

In an indictment unsealed Friday, federal prosecutors allege that Kendell L. Richburg, 36, took part in a drug scheme between January 2011 and October 2012. He is further accused of having and using two handguns to further the conspiracy.

"Corrupt police officers insult the many honorable officers who serve with integrity," U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein said in a statement. "Any officers who may be tempted to abuse their authority should be on notice that we have the power and obligation to hold them accountable."
    Wow. What is going on?
    Disturbing.

Not everyone has a history that includes assult and arson charges.
I wonder what percentage of police departments would have passed on this gentleman when he applied.

He gives a black eye to the HONEST, DEDICATED Officers on the streets (and his screw up makes their job harder too).

What does diversity have to do with police corruption?

    Soul,

We are not talking about diversity in regards to race, creed, color, etc. We are talking about diversity as in 'hiring the lowest of the low' in an effort to look compassionate.

If you aim your hiring practices at people with little to no morals, not only will you get people with little to no morals, but those applicants WITH INTEGRITY won't want the job and will go someplace that appreciates their values (of truth and honesty).

If the department was to only accept the best, then the applicant pool would be less, but the Officers hired would be better (again, regardless of race, creed, color, etc).

I understand that lowering hiring standards isn't good for police departments. It does lower the overall quality of the people who join he force.

However, incidents of police corruption is a problem that isn't limited to Baltimore City. NY, LA, and Miami have had some high profile police corruption cases over the past few decades. The money involved in drug trafficking and organized crime is too lucrative for some LEOs to resist.
