He was a man who preached peace and reconciliation. There were other strident voices at the time that did not. King helped America live more to its ideals.

    flyboy,
    J. Edgar Hoover? AWM#1

    From your article flyboy:

"Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of John and Jacqueline, said her mother's comments about King are evidence of the "poisonous" activities Hoover was engaged in, as he ruled the FBI as his private fiefdom. She said the comments didn't reflect her mother's true feelings about King, pointing out that she was proud to attend his funeral in 1968."

"It shows you the poisonous … activities of J. Edgar Hoover, and the idea that this is going on at the highest levels of government is really twisted," Caroline Kennedy said. "If you asked her what she thought of Martin Luther King overall -- I mean she admired him tremendously," she added."

If jeebus believes as such its his to believe. No different than you using the name Michael King Jr, which is not recognized by the vast majority of people nor is used on his grave site. The man died as Martin Luther King Jr. He isn't a threat.

Michael King, Jr., was his birth name. I used it to catch people's attention. There is nothing wrong with using it to highlight an interesting history behind the man. Both Martin Luther and Martin Luther King, Jr., had a great impact on history.

If you find offense in this tidbit, I'd say it makes you a sad, sad person, too.

Yes that's what her daughter is saying. Protecting the party image by reinterpreting her dead mother's own words.

When did I ever say or imply he was a threat?

Are you saying the tapes Hoover had on him and the comments made about him by Mrs. Kennedy were not accurate? Afraid to admit that maybe he was not such a so called great man?

    Omaha Beach--

So, I take it you don't think he's great man. Is that because of his affairs, his plagerism, or something else?

Are you trying to play the race card with me? Am I supposed to say i think he was a great man because of his race? Yes his affairs and plagerism are reflections of a lack of character. Dont you think so? I also dont think JFK was a great President or person either and he was the same race and religion as me. He practically turned the White House into a bordello when his, wife was not there. His bungling of the Bay of Pigs led to the Cuban Missle crisis. He started the build up in Vietnam that led to the early deaths of 58,000 young men of my generation. Now does that make me an anti Irish bigot?

He is until his doctorate is officially removed by the institution that awarded it in the first place. You can refer to the man any way you want, but you are not the arbiter of the validity of his academic record.

What we focus on, what we choose to comment upon and the frequency of those comments says much about our character. Your posts are quite revealing.

    I haven't heard Hoovers tapes.

And Mrs Kennedy's opinion--well don't know that opinions are accurate or inaccurate?
Are you suggesting character flaws mean someone can't be a great man? Which would eliminate oh let's see, Shakespeare, Newton, Galileo, Luther, Franklin, Jefferson, FDR, Eisenhower, Churchill. That's a shame.

Has any of these women come forward that Dr. King allegedly slept with or are we suppose to take the word of a racist Homo.

I'd say he was a great man because of the way he was able to stir the country and bring this issue of civil rights to the forefront. He didn't do it alone, of course, but he became the face of it and eventually a martyr for it.

Despite his personal flaws, we are a better country for him.

Default Let us reflect on Dr. King holiday celebrations past on our forum.

With the convocation now started and the personal attack and playing of the race card and “Let’s go off~topic and derail this thread” portion of the forum’s annual commemoration and reflection of Dr. King already underway, let us now pause for a brief stroll through the recent past ~ showing just some of the ways the forum has honored the slain civil rights icon on this very forum.

    (Remain seated.)

    We have ~

The “Michael King” revelation from 2012.

    and...

The annual “Jackie Kennedy said” remembrance

    and...

The annual Washington Times “But he was a bad man” commemoration

    and

The new “Let’s use the occasion to somehow bring Sarah Palin into it and disparage a single statement by someone in Dr. King’s family to pretend that Palin is smart” AKA the “Any stick will do” angle.

    and...

The “What a horrible monument!!” reflections.

    and of course...

And where would we be without the “But FOX News said…” POV observations.

    Octoburn--

Is there a problem with pointing out his birth name was Michael King, Jr.?

    Baltimatt ~

Of course not. Are we feeling a tad too defensive today?
