Default Red vs Blue (in 2008) States

Lot of data contrasting the stark differences in income, religion, gun ownership, IQ, college education, etc between the Red and Blue states in the 2008 election.

This is just data, so draw your own conclusions:

Yeah, I ran a thread quite a few years back on that. It is amazing to see it. Especially when you think of how important religion is, and at the same time how high the divorce rates are. Truth be told, I do not think that if any of those states actually did cede from the union that they would be missed.

It is also amazing how the lingering effects of the cause and outcome of the Civil war can be seen as well.

My consluion is that a liberal progressive nutter compiled this information and its commentary. Draw your own conclusion about that.

So, are you inferring that conservative nutters are not smart enough to generate their own data? it sure seems like you are?

Data, is data...that is, unless you are saying that the data is incorrect? If you are, link please?

Conclusions are a different thing altogether.

Do yourselves a favor and ignore any "data" source that relies on sites such as http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2004...ion-IQ2004.htm as a source for its attempt to denigrate people.

    This:

    Bush..... IQ: 91
    Kerry.... IQ: 128
    * Retarded is considered 75-85.

Should be enough for intelligent people to disregard it.

This again confirms that the red states freeload off the blue states.

    Why?

    Is it factually incorrect?

    Link, please?

It's funny how folks, when they don't like some data, are desperate to discredit by discounting the source, or, one of it's MANY data points.

I would encourage these people to present their own, counter data/studies. I'm sure Fox has something you can all use?

    No.

But with doing some research to confirm, it's only my opinion.

But that alone, does not invalidate the rest of the data.

Okay. slapshot. Enjoy your snotty self with your second thread posted this week for no reason other than to denigrate others. I hope they've give you your superiority boost for the day.

Ok, Sprightly. You are always free to post an opposing point of view, or data of your own. With regards to coming up with counter data of your own, here, I will help you...here are his SAT scores:

    http://www.iuptown.com/YaleProtest/b...transcript.htm

While not great, they would seem to indicate his IQ is higher than the data in the previous link....if one can infer IQ from SAT scores? I'm not sure if you can? While I have no idea what his actual IQ is (that information is normally kept confidential, except in cases that are high)....I will say that given all of his verbal (and other) mistakes, he clearly did not come off as very bright (to most Americans). But that's not quantitative, just an observation.

Don't like the message, then you have two options: (1) Ignore, or (2) provide counter information. It's really very simple.

You called him snotty and superior, then in the very next breath accused your target of denigrating others. Does the irony not strike you at all?

Good thing you are best friends with a mod, or you'd actually have to answer for stuff like this.

You are correct on this one. Ignore is the better option. You will be in the company of that fried seafood person and the song woman. Enjoy!

Well without reading any of the links think it's pretty ludicrous to infer IQ. Possibly w very young children based on well tested observation techniques but otherwise, don't think so. And income and education may correlate with urban areas-- most high paying and high qualification jobs would cluster in those areas?

    Anyway.

He cherry picked the one data point that is, and has been in dispute since Bush was in office. That said, I did not see anywhere on the link I provided, any claims about Bush' IQ. Maybe I missed it, but I don't think so.

But there is a LOT of other useful, if not informative data on the link I provided.

Conclusions, and reasons why the data is what it is - is always subject to conjecture and interpretations. But data is data....that is, until it is shown to be incorrect.

NOTE: the author provides links to the data sources. For example, one of the IQ data sources was from the Daily Mirror, which is a UK paper/media.

There's also the obvious hazard of inferring that the population of a state is homogeneous, which is what the red state/blue state silliness does.

Anytime you average the data, that will happen.
