Default Mayor Rawlings-Blake To Take Leadership Post At DNC

Rawlings-Blake to take leadership post at DNC

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will become the secretary of the Democratic National Committee on Tuesday, giving the scion of one of the city's most noted families a prominent role in national politics.

The move, which has not been announced, will give Rawlings-Blake a voice in the party's national political apparatus at a time when President Barack Obama is beginning his second term and several Democrats -- including Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley -- are jockeying for the nomination in 2016.

    Rawlings-Blake, 42, has served as Baltimore's mayor since 2010.

One would think that the Mayor has enough to do in Baltimore City that wouldn't have time for a second job.

Has any mayor since Schaefer actually given a crap about Baltimore instead of using it as a stepping stone?

Does she have any discernible leadership qualities?

I thought it was really strange that the article did not mention how, if at all, this new post may affect her role as Mayor. Wouldn't that be of primary concern to the reader (your average Baltimoron)?

I have to believe that the DNC will provide staff to work with her current City of Baltimore staff. I've worked with her office regularly for quite some time. While her staff has been mostly competent, in my opinion, they couldn't handle more scheduling and other responsibilities.

Makes one wonder what the qualifications were. Speaking of the mayor, anyone see her reaction when asked by a reporter her opinion of the Ravens/partiots game? Caught off guard and without her typical pre-written cheat sheets, all she could come up with was, "I'm speechless." She then paused for a second and then repeated herself. Say what? That's it Steph? The Ravens beat the favored Partiots and are going to the Super Bowl and that's all you got?

She looked like a deer in headlights.

Good luck with the new assignment:

"The most public role the party secretary performs is to call the roll of delegates at the national convention — a largely symbolic act of recognizing each state on the floor to determine which candidate its delegates will support."

Make sure you have your cheat sheets ready.
