Default Phil Mickelson speaks out on taxes: may move and/or retire

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonyn...ing-tax-rates/

Phil Mickelson is doing what everyone does: making decisions based on economic factors. The govt has used tax policy to influence behavior since the union was formed. Good for him for speaking out. 62% is too much no matter how much you earn.
Word is, Phil Mickelson is mad as hell about rising tax rates, and he’s not going to take it anymore. What follows is a brief portion of an interview Mickelson gave earlier today after carding a final-round 66 at the Palmer Course at PGA West in La Quinta – which I assure you, is not associated with the La Quinta next door to your local Denny’s – in which the golfer hinted that he is considering drastic career changes because of a combined tax rate nearing “62, 63 percent:”

    Q. When you’re asked about Stricker’s semi-retirement, with the political situation the last couple months, blah, blah, blah, what did you mean by that? Do you find it an unsettling time in a way?

PHIL MICKELSON: Well, it’s been an interesting offseason. And I’m going to have to make some drastic changes. I’m not going to jump the gun and do it right away, but I will be making some drastic changes.

Shawn Hanity also pays 60% of his wages in taxes. That's why Rush Limbaugh moved to Florida and broadcasts from there. Never has the story of kiling the goose that laid the golden eggs more pertinent to today that that story.

No one is kicking him out and no one is begging him to stay.

Sounds like he's begging for attention...

To be honest, it’s hard to blame Mickelson – who has compiled a net worth approaching $180 million by repeatedly striking a tiny white ball until it falls into a hole — for putting all options on the table, which according to some, include the possibility of prematurely shutting down his career to avoid his rising tax burden.
    Poor guy.

You have the right to speak out no matter what your net worth is. If he's serious about leaving the US to evade taxes I doubt he would announce it publicly...

I think he is just leaving Cali. But everyone works to minimize their tax bill, with very few exceptions.

Not really valid to compare middle class types to someone worth $180 million.

Phil, your taxes went up 4%, back to what they were in the late 90s? Come on Phil, Remember. Tax rates fall, tax rates rise, depending on the needs of the country & the economy. Phil's not entitled to a particular tax rate, whether he believes it or not. The Fed govt has the Constitutional power to tax, which includes the power to raise or lower tax rates, as needed.

Phil enjoys driving on roads in his Benz, and flying into airports to play a rich-man's game. Well, somebody's gotta pay for those roads & airports, and somebody's gotta pay to maintain them. It might as well be him, since he uses them. Oh, and the rest of us also pay for them, whether we use them or not, Phil just pay your fair share.
