The subtle change: From Gun Control to Gun Safety

How many have noticed the subtle change in terminology used by the elected officials and media outlets who want to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights when they discuss gun control? I have noticed that many now use the term "Gun Safety" when they want to limit magazine size, increase restrictions on so-called assault weapons, licensing, etc.

"Gun Control" has a ring to it that puts people on the defensive while the term "Gun Safety" has a positive feel. Now if you oppose the gun-grabbers moves they will paint you as someone opposed to "Safety" even though most of the restrictions they want to impose have little, if anything, to do with safety.

Here is just one example in the very first line:

President Obama says that, when it comes to congressional action on gun-safety legislation, “This time must be different.”

Responsible gun owners, and yes even the dreaded NRA, are some of he strongest proponents of gun safety. This is just an example of the gun-grabbers propagandists in action.

This was the reason the Obama administration blocked the importation of M1 Garands last year. Listing the possibility of accidents, they blocked importation of a gun designed in 1930s because they think we as a nation are too stupid to operate it safely.

I believe the Richmond Circuit Court of Appeal heard the case back in October and the decision is supposed to come out in March/April.

It will be interesting as to see if the decision will mention Newton shooting or not and if so what will be the context.

Modern progressives believe governments know better how to solve every problem with more laws. Laws we know will never be enforced. They are just feel good political stances that end up costing taxpayers more money.

This is the Governor's Firearms Safety Act of 2013. In reality it is a Gun Control Act.

Government has been engaging in this sneakly little practice for quite some time. "Gun Control" becomes "Gun Safety". "Tax increases" are "Revenue increases". "Liberal legislation" becomes "Progressive legislation". "Illegal immigrants" are "New Americans". Anytime a term takes on a negative connotation, change it. Much easier to sell it to the people. Not unlike car salesmen changing from "Used cars" to "Pre-owned cars". Hmm, politicians and car salesmen doing the same thing. Who would have thought? And they wonder why the professions of politician, care salesman, and lawyer are routinely the most distrusted by the public.
