This is a massive and difficult undertaking -- it is worth our effort, it is worth our sacrifice, because we know the stakes. The failure of Iraqi democracy would embolden terrorists around the world, increase dangers to the American people, and extinguish the hopes of millions in the region. Iraqi democracy will succeed -- and that success will send forth the news, from Damascus to Teheran -- that freedom can be the future of every nation. (Applause.) The establishment of a free Iraq at the heart of the Middle East will be a watershed event in the global democratic revolution. (Applause.)

But the battle was far from over.

“Upon arriving at the annex around midnight, they took up defensive positions, including on the roof,” Lamb testified. “Shortly after their arrival, the annex itself began taking intermittent fire for a period of time.”

The battle continued, with the attackers now using mortars, and it was only in the “early morning” that two more Americans were killed and two more were wounded. Link located at #362.
For those unfamiliar with the February 17 Martyrs Brigade, they were named to commemorate the death of 11 radical Muslim attackers who attacked and set on fire the Italian Consulate in Benghazi, following Italian minister Roberto Calderoli's public defense of free speech in the West. The Italian Minister had spoken out about Islamic violence following the publication of Muhammad cartoons in a Danish newspaper. We relied on these terrorists as security for our consulate?

Perhaps you should take your two cents and use it to buy yourself a clue on the definition of socialism. I'm sorry, but only truly stupid people throw that word around when talking about Obama. Real socialists would be insulted.

I've found that most people on this board who use that term generally have no idea what it really means

If the U.S. Government is involved in illegal activities, I think it's important that we know. If they are riding that fine line we are in agreement; no one needs to know. When people die though, I will not always assume that it is due to them being involved with riding that fine line. It could be something else completely unrelated to the CIA's activities.
The link is for the Benghazi hearings back in October related to the security issue. It's over 3 hours long.

Songfourone, please note that Arkansas is southern, midwestern state. The same is true of Kentucky. Senator Rand Paul is from Kentucky, while Hilary Clinton is from Arkansas * The Ozark Mountains run through Arkansas.

My point in this disseration is that you are a low-information voter, who is amused by jokes that fit your political leanings, regardless of the fact you don't really understand why the joke is funny in the first place.

I might add that on a personal note, I really detest elitist New York writers who embody the epitome of hypocritically assigned bigotry.

You need to first understand that if "redneck" or "hillbilly" were to be applied, Hilary's roots deserve more rights to either term than Rand Paul's.

*Despite her protests that she is part Jewish and from New York - as promoted during Hilary's first senatorial campaign

Way too much time on your hands, it was a joke, nothing more nothing less.

Check your medication, you might be missing a pill or two.

Perhaps you need to start therapy now, you do realize that it is going to be a Clinton/Obama ticket.

Wow. Ok, I don't agree with what Clinton did, but that has no impact on his job as President. None. You don't hear me babbling about Gingrich, and he wasn't even President. Plus, I was mainly talking about your comments about Hillary Clinton, although calling him "white trash" is undeniably racist. [deleted]

How do you feel about other testimony from assistant secretary Lamb? Particularly:
Lamb responded that the requests were for more personnel in Tripoli and it would have made no difference to how many security men would have been protecting the Benghazi consulate where protection was in any case mostly in the hands of a pro-government militia.

"We had the correct number of assets in Benghazi on the night of 9/11," Lamb testified.

We have a dead ambassador! Someone f---'d up in the administration on security.

We'll never know. Clinton, at least, took responsibility and fell on the sword for the admininstration. She's tainted now because she didn't act.

Rand Paul was almost right...somebody should have been canned. Not Hillary ...but at the highest level... Lamb or someone else.

If we can't protect our ambassadors in these countries, perhaps, they shouldn't be there!

Hear what the security experts assigned to Libya months before the attack had to say about the need to extend the DOD security.

As testified, neither Lamb or Kennedy had ever been to Libya. The "prerequisite" amount of security personnel was based on a state department security manual. Benghazi was, and still is a war zone. When have we ever placed an ambassador in a war zone? The facility should have been manned by Marines. In the mid-90's I flew into Haiti on a logistics mission. The Marine compound was fortified with sand bags and concertina wire. This all to defend against Haitians who didn't carry grenade launchers or fully automatic weapons like the terrorists were using in Benghazi. If the Ambassador wanted to walk around the area with limited security that would be his call. But the facility should have been highly secured with Marines.
