    Default Women in combat

    The ban has been lifted:

The U.S. Defense Department plans to lift its ban on women serving in direct combat roles, a Defense Department official said today.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta made the decision to lift the ban on the recommendation of the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to the official, who asked not to be identified in advance of a planned announcement. The Associated Press reported on the decision earlier today.

I'm all for women in the military, but I wouldn't want the average women I met when I served covering my back. This will only last until the first female bodies come back to Dover

The "unintended consequences" from this social engineering experiment should be popcorn-worthy.....

They at least should be required to pass the same physical training standards as men without lowering the standards.

The Coast Guard outfits their cutters with a compliment of female Coasties. I admit it was nice to have women around when underway for several months. There were 150 men to 10 women on average. There were times when it seemed like I was back in High School when fighting over girls was common. Two best friends have been know to fight each other over a woman. The "experiment" should prove interesting.

Well don't forget to sign up for the Selective Service as well. Might as well break all the glass ceilings at once.

Why in God's name would anybody go in to combat if they didn't have to? It has been 43+ years since I was and I still have nightmares and flashbacks. With me the trigger is the smell of burning meat. Historically women in combat has always been an act of desperation here it is an act of liberal social engineering, my God please have mercy on this country.

Interesting point. I think any man that get's drafted can now seek legal action of women are not drafted at the same rate.

It will be voluntary and I doubt many will choose combat positions.

If someone goes through the physical training and passes, why shouldn't they be considered for combat? I would defer this to the armed forces to decide who is fit for combat and who is not. Now if we start doing what we have done in the private sector and requiring quota's for women on the front lines, then we have a problem. Best person for the job. Leave it up to the people running the military to decide if a women is combat ready.

I agree if the physical standards are not lowered and the same for everyone.

Exactly. Imagine there are jobs in the military many men don't qualify for. And think the need for brute strength isn't what it used to be but I completely agree, the standards are the standards.
