Default Bobby Jindal to end Medicaid hospice care for Louisiana

    What a cold s.o.b. :

Jindal made a series of budget reductions in mid-December to help close a nearly $166 million deficit in the current fiscal year that ends June 30. The hospice decision drew the strongest complaints from lawmakers, with senators pushing the Jindal administration to find another way to trim spending.

Despite the complaints, the Department of Health and Hospitals is continuing with its plan to close the program to new adult recipients on Feb. 1. Cutting the program is estimated to save about $1.1 million in state funding this year and $3.1 million in state funding for the 2013-14 budget year, according to DHH.

There will be other more difficult cuts to be made. Most of the states are running in the red zone with the federal government leading the pack. As Clinton said today, the strength of our country comes from our monetary wealth so we must ensure to protect it.

    Jindal Religious? Who knew?

"What would Jindal Do?" Jindal would cut the funding for end of life care for many, that is What Jindal Would Do.

Jindal doesn’t say that what he witnessed was an exorcism. He speculates instead that he might have seen “spiritual warfare.” (And, though he was already Catholic at the time of the incident, Jindal makes no mention of any Catholic priest being present.) In the article, Jindal writes about watching a close friend, whom he calls Susan, fall apart at a Christian prayer meeting. She “emitted some strange guttural sounds and fell to the floor” and “started thrashing about, as if in some sort of seizure.” Jindal, joining the students who remained with Susan, prayed some of the time and at other moments simply observed as she uttered profanities and cursed God. After a crucifix and a Bible were brought near her, she was suddenly relieved of whatever had been distressing her. Jindal concludes modestly, writing, “Did I witness spiritual warfare? I do not have the answers, but I do believe in the reality of spirits, angels, and other re*lated phenomena that I can neither touch nor see.”

Lose a few to save the many. Except the Titanic lost a many to save a few due to PPP on management's part by not adding enough life boats because it would take away from the beauty of the ship.

I think that's kind of a non-sequitur. The system assures that a person like Jindal will never be on Medicaid. It isn't much of an answer for how to handle those who don't have the means to pay for end of life care.

The US is trying, unsuccessfully, to take care of the world. We are seeing the results of that in the denying our own sick and elderly the care they deserve after paying into the system for years. Maybe a source of America's anger.

You may want to re-read the end of the article or learn more about hospice care. The only difference this does is change the pay code on the patient from Medicaid hospice paying the bill to just Medicaid paying. When a patient enters hospice they aren't moved anywhere, all that changes is they know longer want life support efforts made. So, the hospital will simply charge it to Medicaid instead of Medicaid hospice.

    From your link:

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration scrapped plans Wednesday to shutter the state’s Medicaid hospice program in February, meaning the state will continue to provide end-of-life care to people on their death beds who can’t afford private insurance.
    Whats the problem?

Everyone on the left and the right, knows that local, state and federal governments waste money.

Instead of really attacking the pork, political leaders reduce vital services.

There is a reason it is done that way.

If you punish or scare the public, they will not clamor for reduced spending.

IMO EVERY section of government could be reduced by 20 percent and it would still be able to provide the mandated services, yes even the military.

    Just one small example:

A county in FL, with a population of 494,000 people, has 4,000 educational employees, who are NOT performing any class room duties.

A lot of truth in this. As soon as cutting spending talks start, the scare tactics kick in. There's plenty of waste and inefficencies that can be attacked. But the only ox that gets gourged then are the people running their little government fiefdoms. Can't have that, so let's the scare the hell out of em.

Indeed. In Baltimore, the first things on the block are always police and firefighters.
