Default Settling accounts with the U.S. needs to be done with force, not with words

North Korea's top governing body warned Thursday that the regime will conduct its third nuclear test in defiance of U.N. punishment, and made clear that its long-range rockets are designed to carry not only satellites but also warheads aimed at striking the United States.

The National Defense Commission, headed by the country's young leader, Kim Jong Un, denounced Tuesday's U.N. Security Council resolution condemning North Korea's long-range rocket launch in December as a banned missile activity and expanding sanctions against the regime. The commission reaffirmed in its declaration that the launch was a peaceful bid to send a satellite into space, but also clearly indicated the country's rocket launches have a military purpose: to strike and attack the United States.

The commission pledged to keep launching satellites and rockets and to conduct a nuclear test as part of a "new phase" of combat with the United States, which it blames for leading the U.N. bid to punish Pyongyang. It said a nuclear test was part of "upcoming" action but did not say exactly when or where it would take place.

And the U.S. continues to focus on Iran, a country without nuclear weapons, while North Korea threatens the U.S. with nuclear weapons that it actually has.

    I wonder why?

What does North Korea want this time?

I'd like to see the president to tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine and that if they ever attack the US with a nuclear weapon then it'll be the last thing they do.

    And leave it at that.

The North Korean regime is hiding behind millions of human shields. If they do escape into China the Chinese will force them back to N. Korea if they are caught. And once the N. Korean regime has them back they, and all of their family members will be sent to prison for life. And even babies born in the prisons will be given a life sentence. Lot's of documentaries available on North Korea. It is a strange world they live in.

The threats should be taken seriously from both. In the past ignoring threats like those of the Japanese in 1944, and Al-Qaeda in 2001 have had severe consequences. Nobody knows exactly how crazy the son of the former leader really is.

I don't know what can be done to safe guard the world from the North Korean regime. Even China is afraid of them. Imagine what would happen if North Korea released just half of their citizens to China? It would devastate their fragile economy.

I don't understand how a country can open their hands to receive foreign aids for its starving citizens and at the same time pretend to be a "world power". History has shown that North Korea has these tantrums largely for internal political reasons. However, thanks to Pakistan, the North Koreans have the weapon and the means to launch it. I believe we have the technology to disable their ability to use the weapon. The question is will Pakistan continue to work with Islamic extremists and North Koreans and possibly plot to place a dirty type nuclear bomb in the US.

This could also be China jiggling some puppet strings over South Korea support of the Philippines dispute with China and China's warning in the Region to Australia and Japan's to stay out of land and sea disputes. South Korea and Philippines have friendly ties with a large South Korean community in the Philippines. China, disingenuously encourages this type of behavior by suggesting "two way talks." Clever of them to get us to pay for what really is their creation and problem. Like his father, Kim only understands one language. Enough is enough. We need to place Beijing on notice that they must reign in their little junkyard dog or the next time North Korea places a missile on its launchpad, the whole complex will be taken out with drones or stealth bombers.

North Korea has long been using the Mao playbook. Starve your people to death in order to build weapons and your country will gain respect.

    A. North Korea is "in the club". The war machine tends to roll a bit more slowly when the potential target has nuclear capability.

    B. They do not control any strategic assets, one reason why they are dirt poor. The middle east is a different story.
