I've been thinking about this signing, and I wonder if the O's shouldn't have offered 2 yrs/$2M. if he bounces back, and it's reasonable to think he will, given his age and the impact Rick Peterson has on rehab pitchers. I have no doubt he would have taken the extra $500K and 2nd year. and if he's a bust, it still only cost $2M. at the very least, I would have added an option for a 2nd year.

Apparently his contract was downgraded to a minor league deal?

If I'm Jurrjens I don't want a multi year deal. Go out and prove yourself on a one year deal and cash in on free agency next year.

As long as his elbow is attached he'll be able to get minor league deals for the next 5 years because of what he once was. Look at Erik Bedard.

Yup. So he has so much more to prove now.

I can see the logic of that thinking. but guaranteed money is almost always going to win a player's heart. especially in a situation where he didn't have teams beating down his door to sign him

The guy would not have signed a long term cheap deal. If he bounces back, that will be good for the Os and him.

The reality is that the O's coaching staff is going to have their hands full with him.
He has a great attitude, but if they are still worried about his right knee, that is a big deal.

Speaking of knees, I hope Hammel's holds up this season.

If it does and there isn't any weird regression, they will talk about him come award time.

I once had your level of blind faith and devotion.

I think I was 11 years old then...

Isn't that what sports are for?

Especially baseball since the structure let's dreams last a long time.
