When the Colts left the skins were forced down our throat , couple that with the fact that JKC conspired with Tagliabu to keep the NFL out of baltimore is enough reason for me.

    question....

I like the NHL......whom should I root for then ? Philly (not a chance) Pittsburgh (hate em) Living in AA county it was an easy ride to Landover to watch the Caps play. Been a fan since the early 80's.

I'm 50 now.....I don't hate on the Skins. Guess I'm like many when I say, I just don't care about them period.

As for the Nats.....I did check out a couple of their games on TV last year when the O's weren't on.
Pretty exciting team.... I don't hate on them either.

It's been brought up on here from time to time....and I still don't get the hate between the 2 cities and it's sports teams.

die hard O's, Ravens and Terps fan.

Like I said in the first post I used to hate them for that reason but now that Cooke is worm food and we have the Ravens I don't care about that anymore. I see most of the hate from Redskin fans that I personally know in my family and friends. I just don't get it though, why hate on the Ravens?

Simple answer? They've been jealous a long time!

    Look at the two organizations.

Owner (Steve - a class act while Danny - a Peter Angelow wannabe)

GM (right, like there's anyone around who is better than Ozzie).

    Most famous players:

Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and Ed Reed vs WHO?

    QBs are nearly a draw:

Flacco the quiet, proven leader with a BIG resume vs RGIII, a charismatic person (and a good guy), but an untested rookie.

It doesn't really make much sense since they are in two different conferences and the only time it matters is when they play each other and that is rare. I used to hate the Redskins myself when Cooke was the owner but that was for a good reason since he was partially responsible for keeping the NFL out of Baltimore. But since he is dead and sitting in hell with Bob Irsay and saving a seat for ole Tags I have buried that hatchet. I just don't get why so many Redskin fans hate the Ravens like they do. It doesn't make much sense. The only thing I can think of is that they are jealous.
Your team is in a position to earn another Lombardi. Why do you care what any other team's fans think? To get straight to the point, really obnoxious fans are the reason some Redskins fans despise the Ravens. You have them, all teams have them. There is a vocal contingent of Ravens fans who clearly hate the Skins. The funny thing about Harbaugh's "let us be your AFC team" is that many, including myself, were prepared to do that when Baltimore got another team. It wasn't until 2000, that I was exposed to the out right hate that Ravens fans had for the Skins. Everything about the Skins, from the owner to the stadium, down to the fans. I've come across too many Ravens fans who seem to take offense that I'm a Redskins fan. Unsolicited criticism, just from wearing Redskins related apparel. Why is that? Up until this year, strangers would ask me why am I a fan of the team, tell me that I need to get some purple on, or tell me that I need to get onboard with a real NFL team, or I will get the side eye from some people. And that's just from wearing a jersey or any other piece of Redskins gear that I have.

There is a segment of Ravens fans who are overly concerned with how the Redskins do. And are quite vocal about it. Back in 2000 in PSInet Stadium, before the kickoff of the playoff game, the attendance of the game was displayed on the scoreboard, followed by the attendance at FedEx: "attendance 0,000." I don't know that this is still the case, but there were definitely times when NFL scores were scrolled at Ravens games. Anytime the Skins were winning, boos cascaded down. A losing score by the Skins were greeted with cheers. That's a lot going on for fans that don't care about what the Skins are doing.

We can fast forward to this year. Ravens fans were going to "invade FedEx dump" and show "deadskins" fans what a real team looks like. That's fine, except when Griffin was injured, there was an audible cheer from some Ravens fans. Followed up after the game on some social media outlets, some of those same kinds of fans taking pleasure that at least they injured our QB. I would expect that kind of thing from Eagles fans, but I was stunned to see that kind of thing happening from people who identified themselves as Ravens fans. There were also some who were quite gleeful that Ngata's hit on Griffin had lasting implications on the remainder of the Skins' season. Even this past week, a Ravens fan called up a local sports show to talk about the "deadskins" and even when so far as to mockingly ask about Griffin's knee. Real classy. Hell, after the game I ran across very few Ravens fans who were willing to just say "good game." I did come across many who continued slamming my team. "Your owner sucks." "Your team sucks." "Your stadium sucks." "Your fans suck." "This was your superbowl." "This game meant more to you than it did to us." "You still won't make the playoffs." and so on.

Now I can tell you that most Redskins fans in D.C. and further south don't care about the Ravens other than when they play the Skins. The closer you get to Baltimore, you will find more Redskins fans who hate the Ravens. I have friends who still consider the Ravens "the other" local team and are extremely happy that the Ravens are in the superbowl. These are the people who adopted the Ravens as their AFC team well before Harbaugh said anything at the beginning of the season.

As far as the envy thing comes in, very few are "jealous" of the Ravens. You will find that most knowledgeable Redskins fans will readily admit that the Ravens organization is the model for how to assemble a team. That's something that has been absent from our organization since Snyder bought the team. But we now have people in place that know how to put a team together and it's going to take some time to clean up the mess that Snyder has made.

I'm not here to inflame anyone or fight anyone. Just relaying some of my, and some other Skins fans' experience with SOME Ravens fans. I'm sure it's not the majority, but again, it's a large enough group giving the rest of you a bad rep.

One last thing. I know some of the older fans despise JKC, but you should really be thankful. Things happen for a reason. Can you imagine having the Baltimore Jaguars? I think most of you are happier with the way things have turned out.

Once again I have worked in D.C. For the past 23 years and have worked with my fair share of Washington fans who live in Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's county who have always expressed their hate of all things Baltimore. Even when unsolicited. Have had a fair share from VA also. I have also been married for 20 years and my wife's family are all Washington fans and almost to a person hate the Ravens. Ther is even one who hates them even more as he blames the Ravens for Griffin having to get surgery on his knee.

Many Washington fans loves to spread the myth that most don't care but just listen to 980 The Team out of D.C. and hear the reactions when it comes to the callers every time the Ravens are brought up.

Sorry I don't buy what you are trying to sell. The "hate" between the two cities amongst the fans goes both ways and is just as bad on one end as it is the other.

Those Landover fans are bashing the fact that both stadiums in the Camden Yards sports complex were built with taxpayer money. I countered that with the cold hard facts that DC Stadium which is now RFK was publicly funded along with Nationals Park. The infrastructure at FedEx Field was funded by state taxpayer money.

The Redskins are, and always have been, second fiddle to Baltimore football. It's just one of those things - period. Real Baltimore fans understand that. When the Colts left in '84, folks thought Baltimore would jump on the Redskin ban wagon. No way! Tom Clancy said it best after the Colts left: " I'd sell my kids to gypsies before rooting for the Redskins."

I have a problem with the way TV markets work, in general - they overly support what is already a monopoly maintained privately.

Overall, Baltimore has been the favorite whipping boy of many other fanbases - from Philadelphia, to Boston, to Pittsburgh, to DC.

Ray actually hurt the Ravens franchise - as many all over the country don't like him on principle, and the O's were hated due to their dominance over a long period, followed by their failed years.

My worry is that Baltimore fans, with a period of winning, will become as arrogant as fans from other cities.

Can't blame skin fans for some hate. Ravens have a pure class owner, who demands the same from his employees and treats them with class. First class traing facilities with years of playoff aappearnces compared to a team to the south with the worst owner in the NFL and now possibly have lost their saviour, RG.

And now we are in yet another SB while they haven't come close to one since the 80's.

Gotta suck, so I guess its understandable.

After reading the insults spewed by Deadskin fans on the Post discussion threads, I don't want them on the Ravens bandwagon. To paraphrase Clubber Lang in Rocky III, "We will train alone and win the Super Bowl in New Orleans alone.'' I don't care what football fans outside Ravens Nation think of us anymore! We don't need their approval to be great!

I'm not selling anything. I'm telling you about what I have encountered. I'm not saying that there isn't any hate coming from Washington, but you have others pushing the same myth coming from the other side and there's nothing but silence. Am I wrong about the playoffs in 2000 or the cheering when the scores are posted when the Skins are losing? I wouldn't go as far as blaming anyone else for Griffin's injury, but I do have problems with people cheering someone getting injured.

You do have people who in D.C. who hate Baltimore and always have and probably always will. I won't try to dispute that. But there a lot of people like myself who had no issues until being trashed by obnoxious fans.

Count the number of Redskins threads on Ravens boards and vice versa and then talk about who has the complex.

I supported or was ambivalent towards Baltimore sports until I dated a girl whose family was from Baltimore and then started seeing comments as Internet message boards ramped up. The idea that your fan base is better becuase you have a better owner is only made more hilarious by the fact that it is the same fan base who blames a bad owner for you not having a team for a third of my life.

    HAIL -

I rembered something you said on this Forum a while back, with regards to Steelers fans (or visa versa) not supporting the Ravens. I think you were spot on.

This weekend we attended/participated in the 17th Annual Polar Bear Plung. We had to park away from the event and take a bus to the event. In any event, the bus was loaded with Raven, Steelers and Skins fans. The smack talk between all the different factions was very entertaining. But to my point - the Steelers fans said that none of them would be watching the Super Bowl, let alone rooting for the Ravens.

So, your original point, that no self respecting Steelers fans would be rooting for the Ravens, seems to be born out with this group on the bus.

counting threads on internet message boards where a tiny tiny tiny microscopic fraction of the fan base visits...
    ~chortles~

Smokey1....As you know I've been a fan since way back in the early '60's and the close proximities make the natural disdain organic. dc fans want to believe their city is as grand as New York or Dallas, heck they can't even compare "citywise" to Philly. As cities go, they are the dump of that division and the inferiority complex they've developed over the years they then try to "project" on to Baltimore to make them feel better. It fails because it's laughably difficult to feel inferior when you have an 18-7 head to head domination in NFL games.

They also want to believe (or need to believe) that Baltimore aspires to be like dc when nothing could be further from the truth, we love, take pride in and are very comfortable being "Smalltimore".

Today's compost editorial from their IT Guy about "Hail to the Ravens" was probably a makeup story to balance out the Ray Lewis article they did on Friday.
