A man was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries after a shooting at the platform of a Light Rail stop in Lutherville Friday afternoon, Baltimore County police said.

Officers were called to the 100 block Ridgely Road at 4:15 p.m. A police dispatcher said the shooting occurred on the platform of the Light Rail station.

The Maryland Transit Administration reported that the Lutherville Station has been closed due to police activity but shuttle bus service is available from the Falls Road station to Timonium station

so this was the lutherville stop, not cockeysville. i think that's the one that's right next to the old circuit city building. they're now saying they are looking for multiple suspects. sounds like the victim was approached by a group and then shot. should be interesting to see if this was a robbery gone bad or if the victim was known by the miscreants.

What happened to the light rail security initiative?

    --------------

    http://transit-safety.volpe.dot.gov/...l4/default.htm

Safe Maryland Communities. Recently, Maryland Governor Parris Glendening emphasized his commitment to safe Maryland communities with the announcement of a comprehensive light rail security initiative.

The announcement included the renewal of cooperative agreements with Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties for police patrols around stations in the counties.

Five Baltimore City stations would also receive additional patrols under the new initiatives. Other measures in the plan included placement on every train of a Mass Transit Administration (MTA) police officer who will be in direct contact with control centers.

Each station will also be monitored by video surveillance. Video cameras recording activities on the trains are already onboard all light rail cars. By the fall of this year, light rail service will be extended to Hunt Valley, Baltimore's Penn Station and the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Nearly 22,000 passengers daily currently use the light rail system and, with the opening of the three extensions, ridership is expected to reach 36,000 by the year 2000. For further information, contact Anthony Brown at 410, 767-3431.

Victim of Light Rail shooting was work release inmate serving time for attempted murder

Police have not made any arrests

The man shot at the Lutherville Light Rail Station Friday night is in an inmate work release program, serving a 24-year sentence for attempted murder, a Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesman confirmed Monday.

Harold J. Blandon, Jr., 35, was shot by an unknown assailant at the platform after completing his day job and was returning to the re-entry facility, said DPSCS spokesman Mark A. Vernarelli in an email.

Baltimore County police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said detectives are still working to determine whether Blandon was targeted. Police have not made any arrests....

Looks like a hit. My guess is that he won't talk about who would want him dead.
