The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Md. 140 and Dede Road in Finksburg. A man driving a Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling at a high rate of speed when he was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy. The deputy turned on his lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver fled, according to the release.
The driver of the truck drove from Old Gamber Road to Old Westminster Pike before turning into the parking lot of a Jiffy Mart located in the 2200 block of Baltimore Blvd.. The driver of the truck continued onto Md. 140 where he struck a Ford van. Both sides of Md. 140 were closed for several hours.
Both drivers were transported to Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. The driver of the truck who fled died at the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Ford van, a 23-year-old male from Westminster, was treated and released. The names of the drivers were not being released Monday, according to Cpl. Jon Light, of the sheriff’s office.
