    Sage--

It doesn't matter if the age of consent were 12; it is illegal for U.S. citizens and permanent residents to pay for sex with people under 18 overseas, even if it's legal in the country in question. If they were under the DR's age of consent, he could be liable for criminal charges here and there, I guess.

Yes. I heard that on the news today. I didn't know that. Surely the Senator knew it, so was it worth the risk he took. He's still denying it and its hard to say what really happened. Its his word against some teenage prostitutes.

I think it is excused because Democrats are not a party of morality.

Do you agree with the logic and legal principle behind that, matt ?

    kudzu--

I am not comfortable with the U.S. criminalizing activities of U.S. citizens outside its jurisdiction, whether its buying and consuming Cuban goods or penalizing sexual conduct. Are we citizens or subjects?

Agreed. The very idea seems anti-American.

No. But the voters are stupid in both states.
And the US Secret Service is not the Swiss Guard.

Report: Dominican Escort Now Says She Made Up Menendez Claims
One of the women who appeared in a video last fall claiming Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) paid her for sex has now told a different story to the police in the Dominican Republic, The Washington Post reported on Monday.

According to affidavits obtained by the newspaper, the woman said she and a friend appeared in the video after being approached by a lawyer. That lawyer, meanwhile, said a second lawyer provided him with a script and paid him to find the women.
    ...

Last month, the Post, citing two people “familiar” with the investigation, reported that FBI agents had been conducting interviews with people in the Dominican Republic, but had found no evidence to support the prostitution claims.
Uh-oh, looks like trouble beginning for this story.

And faking a sex scandal against an opposition party member is an indication of morality? Democrats don't claim to be the "morality party" because they face reality and realize they can't be the morality police for their prominent (and non-prominent) members.
