Default Gun Rights Activists Classin' Up the Joint

More than 1,000 people attended a hearing before the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Monday to share their views on gun control, USA Today reported. Among them was Heslin, who held a large framed picture of himself and his son Jesse as he urged officials to consider strengthening gun laws in Connecticut.

But as he gave his emotional testimony, pleading with lawmakers to improve mental health options and to ban assault weapons like the one Adam Lanza used to murder his child and 25 other people, his speech was interrupted by dozens of audience members, The Connecticut Post reported.

“I still can't see why any civilian, anybody in this room in fact, needs weapons of that sort. You're not going to use them for hunting, even for home protection," Heslin said.

Pro-gun activists responded by calling out: "Second Amendment!"

Yesterday I was shocked to overhear two solidly republican guys at my workplace speaking favorably of some of the President's gun control proposals.

I think some pro-gun people are acting out more because they realize they may be on the losing side of the argument this time.

I don't have a problem with the crowd's reaction. There were a lot of people with a lot of emotion at the meeting.

Obama's suggestions seem reasonable as long as they don't expand. Only AUTOMATIC weapons should be banned. NOT semi-automatic weapons. Stiffer penalties for failure to secure weapons, and mandatory life in prison without parole if you use a gun in commission of a felony. Period, end o story. Let some marijuhana abusers out of prison to make room for felons using a gun.

To my surprise a lot of my right-wing family supports AWB and other gun control measures as well.

Anti~gun advocates are hurting their own cause when they insist that the Second Amendment is about hunting and home protection. To be sure ~ the father's argument is an emotional one as well ~ and understandably so ~ but I do not think that it is wise to base laws and interpretation of constitutional rights on an emotional basis rather than a legal one stemming from the the actual intent of the Second Amendment.

I would like to know how the president's proposals ~ made in response to the recent killings that stunned all of us ~ would actually help prevent those very incidents. I was rather amazed at Diane Feinstein's response on television Sunday.

Unedited clip of what actually transpired at the following link:

    http://twitchy.com/2013/01/29/outrag...town-hecklers/

The clip is towards the bottom of the page. It doesn't appear that it happened the way it was originally reported.

"But as he gave his emotional testimony, pleading with lawmakers to improve mental health options and to ban assault weapons like the one Adam Lanza used to murder his child and 25 other people"

Lies, lies and bald faced lies. Do you hope to get it acceptede by gullible people if you say the lie often enough??
At 4:15 minutes into this video Pete Williams, NBC News justice correspondent says:
“There is some new information this morning from a couple of federal officials umm, and state officials. They say now that um, that there were actually four handguns recovered inside the school, not just two as we were initially told. Four handguns and apparently only handguns that were taken into the school we knew that Adam Lanza the man said to be the gunman here also had a assault style AR-15 style rifle that he had taken to the school it was in the car he drove there, his mother’s car. But we’ve been told by several officials that he left that in the car.”

By seeking to ban 30 round magazines, gun banners are effectively trying to mitigate the damage that people can and do inflict upon a defenseless society. This is the fatal flaw of gun banners vision of utopia, a defenseless society, totally dependent upon paid professional law enforcement officers. When deranged individuals attack a defenseless group of people, the flaw in their model of society becomes apparent even to morons.

Outrageous: How the left-wing media lied about Newtown ‘hecklers’

    Transcript:

“I ask if there’s anybody in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question … why anybody in this room needs to have one of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips. [Pause, waiting for response.] Not one person can answer that question.”

Audience members: ”[Unintelligible] Second Amendment shall not be infringed”

Public official: “Please no comments while Mr. Heslin is speaking. Or we’ll clear the room. Mr. Heslin please continue.”

Heslin waited for a response. And when he got that response, it wasn’t Heslin who registered outrage — it was the media.
    Thread failure, again.

Is that your response? Really? I don't talk politics with them when I visit them for obvious reasons, yet they brought this issue up themselves. Another post fail from you. You just can't accept the fact that some conservatives have some common sense.

You shouldn't stereotype or make big assumptions. Not all Repbulicans are pro gun, not all of them belong to NRA. My guess is that the majority of pro gun folks agree with SOME of President' gun control proposals.

Some of the proposals I fully support

    • Increasing criminal penalties for "straw purchasers," people who pass the required background check to buy a gun on behalf of someone else

    • Issuing a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

    • Improving incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

    What I don't support are

    • Reinstating and strengthening the ban on assault weapons that was in place from 1994 to 2004.

    • Limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.
