The clip would not help push certain agendas if it was shown in real time unedited. IMHO the reporting of news should be done as neutral as possible and have everybody make their own deductions on what is right or wrong.
Looking back as far as I can remember, the news back in the 60's (Vietnam war era) was for the most part presented that way. The news would show both sides e.g. college kids rebelling and government's (the establishment) actions. Newscasters reported the news - not their own beliefs. Long gone are the days of truly fair and balance news, no matter what side of the spectrum you're on.
The opening scene of the HBO show hits the nail on the head. It's a little lengthy but you have to watch the entire clip to understand where Will (Jeff Daniels) is going.

The likes of Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow and others who reported the news as neutral as possible are so long gone.
