I agree with the Gov...what say you?
I agree with the Gov...what say you?
How does he know that when we never use it?
Didn't the former gov use it once?
I'm against Capital Punishment because I think Life with no parole is a far harsher treatment. My problem is the either life or the ultimate penalty still brings out the mass of appeals (expense) and I don't believe the death penalty is a deterent for most bad folks.
It's not supposed to be a deterrent, it's a punishment. Then there's this:
After that, three of the group made their way to the back gate of the prison, some disguised in stolen civilian clothing. They pretended to be there to install video monitors. One guard at the gatehouse was subdued, and the trio raided the guard tower and stole numerous weapons. Meanwhile, the four offenders who stayed behind made calls to the prison tower guards to distract them. They then stole a prison maintenance pick-up truck, which they drove to the back gate of the prison, picked up their cohorts, and drove away from the prison.
The white prison truck was found in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Kenedy, Texas. The Texas 7 first went into San Antonio right after breaking out of the complex.[11] Realizing that they were running out of funds, they robbed a Radio Shack in Pearland, Texas the next day on December 14.[12]
On December 19, four of the members checked into an Econo Lodge motel in Farmers Branch, Texas (under assumed names).[12] They decided to rob an Oshman's Sporting Goods in nearby Irving, Texas. On December 24, 2000, they held up the store and stole at least 40 guns and sets of ammunition. An off-duty employee standing outside of the store noticed the commotion inside and called police.[13] Irving police officer Aubrey Hawkins responded to the call, arrived on the scene and was almost immediately ambushed; his autopsy later showed that he had sustained eleven gunshots and had been run over by the fleeing gang. Hawkins died at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas shortly after his arrival.[14]

It's about punishment for the most serious crimes.
If life without parole it was really more harsh than death, churches and others opposed to the death penalty would not be so supporting of it.
Life without parole also gives murderers more opportunities to take other lives without worsened punishment.
And those who commit murder make the choice to do so, a choice they do not give their victims.
Agree- you kill a law enforcement officer...that's different!
Many would say that a life is a life whether it's in a uniform or not.
But justice is not always equal.
That pos Thanos was the last to be executed and he waived his appeals.

Maryland has the stomach for constant murder and mayhem, but not for the death penalty.
Rape, child molestation, treason (including all forms or voter fraud & political corruption), kidnapping, and all premeditated murder should be death penalty.
Isn't everything O'Malley does ineffective and expensive?
Its only ineffective and expensive because the libs have made it that way to further thier agenda of total elimination. You get what you vote for.![]()
O'Malley out to know. He's the poster child for expensive and ineffective.
My thinking here is why have it in Maryland? The lawyers manipulate it, the judges won't use it and if they do, it become outrageously expensive in the appeals process, and if a criminal got that far...our gov won't carry it out.
I've sort of taken the voice of reason approach here and find myself agreeing with the gov (that's a first), maybe not for the same reasons but agree that's it's expensive and ineffective.
Ineffective?
If a child runs into the street and his/her parent threatens to spank the child if they do that again and the child does it again but the parent doesn't spank the child, can the parent then claim that spanking is ineffective? Simplistic analogy I know, but isn't that what the state of Maryland does, by never carrying out the spanking?
expensive because the slip and fall crowd over at the MD BAR ***'n has lenghtened the appeals process to the point of someone actually dying on death row from old age while exhausting their appeals.
It is expensive to keep someone alive in prison for 20-60 years.
It is cheap to get the conviction, and take them out back and put 2 in the skull.
depending on caliber of the handgun, it would be about $2.00-$5.00.....
