Heavy Gilman influence. Not to mention the fact that it will probably be plenty of Gilman players in the game. I just think this game is just way too late, a lot of kids will be on College campuses for Summer School.

That is why games like this one have dropped in popularity over the last ten years.. The Blue-Gold game in DE same issue.. It is great for the good players who dont get scholly's for one last game but none of the D1 kids can play in these games so they dont garner the hype and national attention. Locally they are fine though.. The Big 33 was a big deal in the day when it was for bragging rights PA vs OH.. but recently all you hear is if so and so was playing and then they debate if their D1 kids played.. Anyway its still a great event for the non d1 kids for one last horrah!

Pretty sure there were 6 Gilman kids nominated for the game. Now whether or not they will play is a different thing. Like what was said above, the majority of the D1 kids will already be at school and that would include the Gilman kids.

Team Maryland will be having tryouts February 9th at the Ravens Training Facility.

The 2013 Team Pennsylvania roster is already up (http://www.big33.org/Big%2033%20New%...nia_Roster.pdf). They have players committed to the following colleges:
    Pitt- 6
    Michigan State- 3
    UConn- 2
    Penn State- 2
    Northwestern- 1
    Rutgers- 1
    UTEP- 1
    Citadel- 1

Also a run-on for Penn State (run-on is Bill O'Brien's term for preferred walk-ons, usually from local PA programs, usually mid-level FCS talent guys used to make up for lack of scholarships caused by PSU sanctions)

As well as non-committed players with offers from the following schools:
    Eastern Michigan- 1
    Delaware State- 2
    New Hampshire- 1
    James Madison- 1

Over half the PA players (17/33) are committed to Division 1 programs, 16 of those to FBS programs. 3 others currently hold FBS/FCS offers and haven't signed yet, and 1 will be a preferred walk-on. That is 21/33 PA players who will play D1 ball for sure. The 2 QBs are committed to Michigan State and UTEP, a RB is committed to Pitt and a WR is committed to Michigan State as well.

Maryland better get some D1 kids in this game or PA will score at will on them.

PA had a large list of D1 players selected last year at this time as well but less than a handfull actually played in the game.. Once the LOI is signed and they clear NCAA eligibilty most will be on campus and certainly wont risk injury at that point in a game like this mid June .. It would be stupid.. I suspect most D1 commits that actually play didnt clear NCAA and are headed to Juco or Prep... Ohio only had 6 D1 kids actually play and they were from schools like Findlay, Eastern Mich, Toledo, Kent ST, Ohio U..

"All good things must come to an end -- the changing landscape of college football and a down economy hurt -- and this series ends -- for now, anyway -- with Team Ohio having won the last three and six of the last nine. To the guys that played in the game, that matters.

These all-star showcases aren't what they used to be. Too many good players enroll in college in January of their senior year and can't play in them, and many others pass for fear of injury or just plain fatigue. There's no easing into college football anymore; players report in mid-June to campus, immediately start taking classes and immediately enter weightlifting and conditioning programs so they can catch up to their older teammates and be ready to contribute.

In case you missed it the first 25 times, Urban Meyer's strength coach at Ohio State makes $380,000 a year.

College football coaches in general make a lot of money, and they get paid to win. When their recruits aren't ready to play, winning gets tougher and so does keeping a job. It's a cut-throat business. "

If a coach tells a player he shouldn't play in the Big 33 game or another summer all-star game, that player would be wise to listen"
