With outrage over his daughter's death spreading from City Hall to the White House, Nathaniel Pendleton made a public plea Wednesday for someone to step forward and bring the 15-year-old's killer to justice.

"They took the light of my life," Pendleton said at a news conference, where a $11,000 reward was announced for information about Tuesday's slaying of Hadiya Pendleton. "This guy, whoever he was, the gunman, man, you took the light of my life. Just look at yourself and just know that you took a bright person, an innocent person, a non-violent person."

Shaking his head and collecting himself, he continued, "This kid didn't like violence at all, didn't even like to fight, avoided a fight, moved away from anything that was not positive. She was a majorette, just came back from the inauguration. She was destined for great things and you stripped that from her."

Hadiya, who last week performed at President Barack Obama's inaugural festivities...

"Hadiya was hanging out with her volleyball team at Harsh Park after taking exams Tuesday afternoon. About a dozen teens had taken shelter under a canopy during a rainstorm when a boy or man jumped a fence in the park, ran toward them and opened fire around 2:20 p.m., police said."

    A thrill kill?

Part of the gun grabbers agenda, no doubt. All these gun incidents stink to high heaven of conspiracy.

I don't know, but too many people are dying.

Leave it to you to use this to further your agenda. Disgusting.

Chicago is a very violent city. Especially the 60653 zip code. Only 37% of the population of this zip code is employed.

Rahm Emannuel is failing the citizens.

Despite some of the toughest gun laws in the country.

I hope they catch the thug killer soon before he kills again.

My guess - he already has a long rap sheet and was let off time and time again.

Most of those who were in the park were gang members, and those in the group did not stay on scene to help after the shootings, according to police. The shooting occurred around 2:20 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Oakenwald Avenue.
How can people be so callous to ignore the wounded little girl and not render any assistance?

I'll bet none of them will offer any tips or descriptions of the perp, nor will any come forward to testify at trial when he is caught.

A tragic loss that will be repeated unless the citizens of this area do something about it themselves.

People are attacked, beaten, assaulted every day in this country and more often than not witnesses or passers by will not offer assistance. Callousness such as this is becomming all to common in this country these days.

Default Hunt for rival gang members led to shooting death of Chicago honor student

I guess some incidents of gang violence are worthy of their own threads, if they serve a political purpose.

    Others?

Nope, lumped in with the rest since there was no Obama mention, no Michelle attendance.

New details about the death of Hadiya Pendleton emerged during a court hearing in which a judge denied bail for the two men charged with murder in her death, 18-year-old Michael Ward and 20-year-old Kenneth Williams.

Sexton said Ward and Williams belonged to the SUWU gang and were trolling the streets about a mile from Obama’s Chicago home on Jan. 29, looking for members of a rival 4-6 Terror gang. They saw Pendleton and her friends huddled under the canopy about 2 p.m., mistook them for members of the other gang and pulled over in an alley, she said.

Ward told police the two gangs had been shooting at each other since 2010, and he was angry with the 4-6 Terror gang for shooting and killing a friend of his, Sexton said. He hopped out of the car and was handed a gun by Williams, who police said had been shot in the arm by a member of a rival gang just six months earlier, she said.

“Defendant Ward admitted he snuck up on the group and they didn’t see him coming,” Sexton said. He fired at least six times, she told the judge. One bullet struck a 17-year-old in the left ankle, and another grazed the left foot of another 17-year-old.

This young girl was an innocent victim of gang violence, which I believe is the reason that there was a serious effort to identify the perpetrators. I hope these arrests bring her parents some measure of comfort.

The low regard for human life in this story is just incredible. This guy was angry, and he mistook a bunch of teenagers for a rival gang so he just started shooting, killing. F'n unbelievable. I am not one to make excuses for behavior such as this, but what has happened in our culture that people are so callous to causing others pain, loss and death? How can someone think that their own little grudge is worth killing an innocent person?
