Israel must withdraw all settlers or face ICC, says UN report

Israel must withdraw all settlers from the West Bank or potentially face a case at the international criminal court (ICC) for serious violations of international law, says a report by a United Nations agency that was immediately dismissed in Jerusalem as "counterproductive and unfortunate".

All settlement activity in occupied territory must cease "without preconditions" and Israel "must immediately initiate a process of withdrawal of all settlers", said the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Israel, it said, was in violation of article 49 of the fourth Geneva convention, which forbids the transfer of civilian populations to occupied territory.

The settlements were "leading to a creeping annexation that prevents the establishment of a contiguous and viable Palestinian state and undermines the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination," it said.

While I think Israel should end the settlements, what exactly is the ICC going to do? The President of Sudan has warrants out for his arrest.

However, in July and August 2010 al-Bashir traveled to Chad and Kenya, neither of which turned him over to the ICC despite being States Parties; the ICC has reported both member states to the UN Security Council and the ICC Assembly of States Parties.
But it's Israel, so Wizard will get all excited.

The ICC could severely issolate Israel and their leaders. If the ICC issues a warrant Israeli leaders. Then any nation that is a party to the ICC is obligated to arrest them and extradict them to the Hague if they set foot in their nation or territory.

Frankly, I think Obama needs to resign the Rome Statute. It was originally signed by Clinton and unsigned by Bush. Obama seems to be a big fan of doing the math and other Clinton era policies. The second he signs the Rome Statute, Israel will start doing the math. But not until then.

Without diplomatic missions like the UN to preserve the peace and international courts for nations to civilly settle their disputes by nonviolent means. Then the only means of settling disputes will be by military might and who has the biggest nastiest bomb.

I'm sure Israel is all a-quiver at the possibility of having to face the ICC.

Name one country with the balls to arrest an Israeli leader and risk the wrath of the IDF. Is the weather nice in that dream land you live in?

And the chances of any Israeli leader setting foot in France are virtually nil.

What is the UN going to do?

put a bunch of blue helmets in the Golan Heights to "observe" Israel?

maybe they will have a bunch of the bananna republic-dictators, fat off their turn at the UN trough (of american taxpayer money) speak in a negative manner about them.

    That'll teach Israel.

The SOONER America leaves the UN and kicks them out of Manhattan the better off we ALL will become.

Israel has never cared about violating international law. A toothless proclamation isn't going to make them care now.

Perhaps the EU could impose economic sanctions. That might make some Israelis think twice about creating new illegal settlements on captured territory.

    .

The simple honest truth was spoken by Ben-Gurion:

    http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/David_Ben-Gurion
    Quote
    Memoirs : David Ben-Gurion (1970), p. 36
"I don't understand your optimism," Ben-Gurion declared. "Why should the Arabs make peace? If I were an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country. Sure, God promised it to us, but what does that matter to them? Our God is not theirs. We come from Israel, it's true, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been antisemitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that? They may perhaps forget in one or two generations' time, but for the moment there is no chance. So, it's simple: we have to stay strong and maintain a powerful army. Our whole policy is there. Otherwise the Arabs will wipe us out.
    End Quote

But, the Arabs did not and will not forget that their homes and land were stolen by invading so-called Jews (Khazars) from Eastern Europe.

France will be in a North Africa quagmire for some time. And so will the US if we don't let France drag us into another war.

No, Netanyahu was just there before the election. He was trying to use France to show the voters that he has some kind of relevancy in Europe. He doesn't. But a picture is worth a thousand words and if Netanyahu is in that picture everyone of them will be a lie.

They might pass a(nother) resolution or something. If I were Israel, I'd be skeered.
