It comes down to the FACT that the leftists don't like is inaccurate. What they like is accurate.

Initial reports by police were changed..... likely not be evidence, but by instructions from higher ups that want more gun restrictions. Since handguns are already under tight controls they needed an incedent they could use, so they reconstructed this on paper to be useful.

The reason I "dug it up" as you say is I remember seeing them show an AR15 in the trunk of the car on the same day of the shooting. I told my wife that it looks almost exactly like mine. Then I start hearing a day or two later about how an "assault rifle" was used and wondered if he had two with him. I know they wouldn't move the gun away from the crime scene.
