Default And Lewis will be working for this network?

I was listening to NPR on the way to work today and they had their sports segment and were interviewing someone about the Super Bowl. I didn't catch his name but he was asked about the Ray Lewis controversy.

His response (I'm paraphrasing here) was:

Lewis is an embarrassment to the NFL and it was a shame the NFL has been promoting him as a face of the NFL. First there were the double murders in which he was involved and I am glad family members are coming out and speaking against him. Of course there are many people who believe Lewis got out of the murder conviction with his money.

Finally, when all was said and done, the interviewer mentioned that this person was from...you guessed it...ESPN. I've been trying to find the interview on NPR's website, but so far...no luck since I don't know who the interviewer was, nor the ESPN interviewee. I have to say I was surprised that this came from NPR.

Yeah I heard that this morning also and was quite upset about it. The dude is from the New England area that I know for sure and is an espn employee. I almost wrote a nasty note to NPR but figured Ray wouldn't care what the dude said so I shouldn't either

Really Cletus? Who cares. Bottom line...two people were murdered. Ray was found guilty of providing false testimony and hampering a murder investigation. The cloths he was wearing that night were never found. You want to believe Ray was wronged, good for you. Old news, is Ray a saint or a devil? Only a few people really know for sure. If you believe fathering children to a bunch of different women is an honorable thing, good for you. Just give it a break Cletus. Outside of Baltimore most people believe Ray's moral compass is broken.

Just once I'd like to see / hear someone discuss what triggered the whole incident.

They don't because none of them recall the facts, and likely never knew them to begin with.

A lot of people did stupid things that night. The painting of the two fatalities as tragic completely innocent bystanders is something I'll always find fascinating.

NPR is usually better than that. I could see the animosity towards Lewis if he was a habitual problem, aka Terrell Owens, or had many run-in with the law - he hasn't. He made a huge mistake in his youth and hung out with the wrong people; by doing so, he got himself in a terrible situation where two people were killed. But that doesn't make him a murderer. In fact, I believe it is widely known who the killers were. It just wasn't found to be murder. Both killers got off on self-defense.(I am going on memory and if I am wrong in any of this, please point it out. I am sure the whole trial and reports are still in print somewhere).

Now, years later, there are still people bringing it up. That is not really a problem, except that they do so with an agenda accusing Lewis as a murderer. None of these people know what happened that night. Only the participants really do. But, if you hear them, they were right there when it happened.

Yep, Sweeting & Oakley were acquitted, jury said Lollar & Baker were killed in self defense. If somewhat hit me or one of my friends in the head with a Moet bottle, I'd do ANYTHING it took to defend them and myself. It's still a tragic incident,I feel bad for the families of the dead. I'm not someone who believes it should never be discussed either. But context is everything.

Based on most news reports, you'd think Lollar & Baker were Saints who were minding their own business, while Lewis, Sweeting and Oakley plotted to kill them for fun.
