They say the fish stinks from head down. In Middletown's case I have a funny feeling the opposite is the case. The greatness of the teams is based on the foundation of a legendary Coach and current AD Ambrose and the foundation he has built.
But the bottom line here that you don't know jack about sports to opin that a top flight public football team in Maryland can't be competitive against the private mediocre to bottom feeder teams.
Can someone clear up for me this august 18th thing? How is that any earlier than before? I always thought it was around the 14th-16th
There is nothing to clear up MDhsfbfan. It's just BigSky's typical privates are so much head and shoulders above publics - know-it-all BS. I recall reading dialog where BS came on this board ranting about Patterson fans smoking the cheba at a game against Urbana. He supposedly was on the Urbana side of the field and claimed he could smell it as it was that strong. However, he was the only one at the game who seem to smell it. NO ONE else affirmed his claim. He also claim to witness plays that simply did not happen the way he stated he saw it from the sideline and this guy was an experienced official. It made me wonder who was actually smoking that cheba or who downed one too many beers or something else.
Mid-August is about when public football practice typically start with the required number of days one MUST practice before scrimmages and the start of the season when school starts. Privates tend to get down to real football business earlier with many going off to team camps, right BS?
If you look at it Privates are far better than Public's. The public's could not field a team that could beat GC, DeMatha, Gonzaga, Gilman, or CHC last year. Yes they are the top schools but no public would come close to beating them. The next tear of Privates you have to go to the Top Teams in the 4a and 3a, or Dunbar to compete. Yes Douglass beat Spalding, but that's just one game. Middletown would not beat or come close to beating any of the major privates. The power football game would be shut down because most privates are equally or bigger in the front seven that Middletown has ever seen. Schools like River Hill, Damascus (sp) would be shut down by the higher level coaching to their constant schemes.
Dunbar would beat many of the other schools out there whether 4a, 3a or otherwise and they were dismantled by CHC. If it were any other coach, CHC would have put up 50. No disrespect to public's but the Private schools when you look at the numbers (Small amount of Prives, Large Amount of Publics) and the level of superiority for privates. Privates are much. much better. Face the facts, or call one of the schools above for a game like scrimmage and have it thrusted upon you personally.
PLEASE!!!!!!! Let's not confuse Gilman or Good Counsel with the entire privates entity. The privates ARE NOT Gilman nor Good Counsel top to bottom. Right now the privates are up and on a run and there were times the publics were the dawgs having their day. For example, CHC now is NOT the CHC of yester-years as was posted about their record over time. CHC is on a high for a mere 3 or 4 years but they were so-so at best for many years before that. watson34, I noted your comment that Douglass beat Spalding but you called it just one game. I recall Douglass waxed private Paul VI for two straight seasons prior to playing Spalding. Hell, 1A Fort Hill gave Mount Saint Joe all it could handle for a couple years with Fort Hill beating MSJ. Those are some hard cold solid facts. Talk of what Middletown, a repeated champ, can't do against any privates is non-sense speculation. Again, the privates are not all Gilman. Lutheran, Friends, Carmel, St John's, Annapolis Christian, Palloti, St. Mary's, MSJ, GT Prep, Riverdale Baptist, St. Albans, B McNamara, and a host of other privates just ain't Good Counsel and they would be in a dawg fight against the likes of Middletown, Douglas-PG, Patuxent, McDonough, Westlake, North Point, Wise, Quince Orchard, Dunbar, Fort Hill, River Hill, Gwynn Park, Flowers, Huntingtown, and need I name more publics!!!!!!! Wasn't there a season Douglass and Gwynn Park spanked CHC...
Yep yep, you can say now that the publics can't field a team to beat Gilman, DeMatha, Gonzaga, Good Counsel, or Calvert Hall BUT there was a time in my time of 2006 that the privates didn't recruit a team to handle Friendly, Edmondson, Suitland, Northwest, River Hill and Sherwood. They may have been ranked 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - and 6 in 2006. That may have been the year the rest of the top teams were Quince Orchard, Urbana, McDonough, Gwynn Park, Flowers, Dunbar, Fort Hill, Damascus, Westlake, and other publics.
The point is that things go in cycles... What goes around, comes around!
Now listen very carefully BigSky, if county school districts can have different starting dates and a level playing field is key to public sports, then early starting school districts could have an advantage over later starting schools. Now how do you think that unbalance is corrected? But of course you "...forgot more about Sports,Training, athletes then [ I ] will ever Know....". Therefore, you should know, especially as an insider with so many years as an official, that the MPSSAA set the starting dates for all sports regardless of school class start dates and that sports start dates have been set out to about 2020 by the Maryland public school sports governing body and it's mid-August every year for football. Consequently, your FredCo and other school districts CLASS start dates is MOOT! Now confused you BigSky has been schooled by a housewifel!
If I do say so myself
When you said you weren't sure about the start date of other schools districts, I listed some for you to show you that school districts select their own start dates BUT I further informed you that the MPSSAA decided the sports start dates and that they have done so out to 2020!!!!!
But the thread started by you is about publics --- in your save face FredCo slant --- starting practice the same time the privates start thus there should be no supposed advantage of the privates over the publics and you wanted to sit back and assess how things are going to go. But I've informed you that when any school district elect to start school is completely independent of when the MPSSAA say they can start practice and they say mid-August for football. You simply and wrongfully had practice start linked to class start. You were wrong and confused and you are quite often wrong and confused yet you come off with such great knowledge and experience. But you just don't know what you don't know and often argue such wrong assinine points. But I do like arguing with you. You play into it so well led by the nose.
Anywhat, no worry about FredCo missing out on 2-a-days. They can make up for it and more at the various in-resident "camps" teams attend where they will do 4-a-days from sun up to sun down. Remember the days when schools like Heref.... went off to PA as a team to work and possibly even do contact work before contact work was permitted in MD. There are many imaginative coaches or programs out there. But you know all about that, right, just like you knew about the MPSSAA seting the practice start date?
