    Default Alisha keys

this girl can not sing our anthem at all. she was very slow and screwed it up at the end of the song. there is a right way and the wrong way to sing this song.OK i can not sing but i do know how it should be sung. why do we always get someone who can not do it the right way. also most people do not put their hand over their heart when this song is sung. i am an Army veteran and i am just venting my thoughts. i did love this game i am so happy for the RAVENS to win the Superbowl.

I thought it was beautiful. And I don't put my hand over my heart during the national anthem, either.

Horrible. She was horrible. It's not a ballad, sweetheart.

The last Super Bowl National Anthem performance worth a damn was in 2005 at Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville.

No lip synching, no "embellishments" or personal "interpretations" and they knew all the words without a tele-prompter.

Very nice, but the trumpeteer and the repeated verse at the end wasnt a collective "interpretation?"

I think it is extremely inappropriate to perform the national anthem as though it is a torch song, or any other personal improvisation. It should be sung respectfully, sincerely, and with spirit. That's just my opinion. But then I am not at all a fan of vocal gymnastics in popular music in general. I call this my "Mariah Carey Principle," which is: just because you can make a certain sound doesn't mean you should.
    Alicia Keys herself is gorgeous.

Alicia Keys as a musician stuns me. She's unbelievably talented, both as a singer and a pianist.

Personally I liked her rendition of the national anthem, but I can see why some wouldn't. Still, there's absolutely no denying her raw musical ability.

Nothing compares to the Carl Lewis rendition.

    Call him "Francis Scott Off-Key".

I always wondered why they get various "pop" stars to sing the National Anthem. Crazy.

I wish these "artists" would just sing the damn and song and spare us their embellishments, interpretations, and interminable warblings.

Because my first amendment rights (which, thank you for protecting them for me) allow me to not put my hand over my heart, but to stand respectfully at attention with my hands in front of me.

Do you also take issue with the people who disrespectfully shout "O" in the middle of the anthem?

Or were you asking why I thought her rendition was beautiful? That, is just my personal opinion. I think she is a fantastic singer and pianist.

I agree. I love to hear her voice. I didn't see her sing the national anthem, but it's hard for me to fathom her doing a bad job at it.

thank you for your input. she might be a great singer but i did not care for the way she sang the song. it does not bother me shouting the O. i do not do any shouting.

So, if a singer performs the Anthem as a Torch Song (a song of love, by the way), I would be OK with it!

I missed the live show, but caught a recording. It was very moving.

I watched a full quarter of the Puppy Bowl while she was singing.

Shouting "O" when the anthem is sung is disrespectful and isn't how my anthem was meant to be sung.
