Ravens officials said Thursday they won't extend an open invitation to fans again without first passing out free tickets, after this week's Super Bowl celebration at M&T Bank Stadium where larger-than-expected crowds amassed and an 11-year-old boy was trampled.

Tiffany Hodge said she brought her son to the stadium from East Baltimore with hopes that he could see his hero, running back Ray Rice, but an unruly crowd overwhelmed them and both were knocked unconscious. She said her son, Tyrek, suffered a concussion, an injury to his eye, and still has a swollen face.

"I was holding my son's hand, but instantly it was gone," Hodge said in an interview Thursday. "It was too late. They had already trampled on top of us."...

Gone are the days of unwritten rules.

I remember when they had parades for the Colts and Orioles in the 70's and the Orioles in 83. Not a single barrier had to be put up. There was an imaginary line that you did not cross. That line was the curb. Now its knock the barriers down and to hell with anybody but myself. There are no family values anymore.

IMHO, I think we as a society are regressing in a downward spiral at an alarming rate. We peaked with rule of law and unwritten laws in the 60's, 70's, and part of the 80's. The entitlement society is destroying all that we stood for, for many, many years.

I feel sorry for anybody growing up now because I don't see it getting any better before it hits the pits.

I'm not surprised to hear about something like this. I think $5 a ticket is more than a fair price and could have helped prevent this incident. At least some of the riffraff would have been kept out. Tickets would sell fast, organizers would have an idea on how many people will show up, and security could be adjusted accordingly. Not to mention, the cost of such a large event would be offset.

Although I wanted my family to be there, I have some regrets about bringing them. There was an overwhelming lack of civility at the stadium. It was great to do once, but I'll never do it again.

Surprisingly, people were a lot better on our way to/from the stadium.

You could not be more correct about charging for any type of ticket.

FREE tickets would just invite trouble, surely executives at the Ravens have to understand this.

Charge $5, sell the tickets on the web ONLY and donate the entire proceeds to the Special Olympics.

About viewing the chaos of climbing into the stadium on the web and the violators suffering NO consequences, this will set the standard for next season when thugs decide they want to see a game at M & T without a ticket.

Sometimes I really miss Baltimore and the memories of my family, than reality sets in and it would be difficult to go back and subject my wife to such a thug like environment.

Watching the Ravens on the Sunday Ticket is better than dealing with such an uncivilized urban environment.

The blatantly obvious manner in which they were scaling the walls and entering the stadium doesn't fall under the category "snuck" either.

I believe that McDonald's opened up in the early '80s, but the lady is eternally young regardless.

Well two wrongs don't make a right, but storming the castle still doesn't equate to "snuck." From my "perspective," there is an unhealthy global fixation on professional sports that often results in riots and people getting inured. Doesn't matter if they're white, black or green with purple polka dots.

Why accept any of it? We, as a nation, are regressing when it comes to civility. Gain a little perspective and read my previous post about parades in the past. That's real through the eyes of some of us "older" participants of previous times.
