Default British House of Commons voted to support a bill to legalize same sex marriage

A large majority in the British House of Commons on Tuesday voted to support a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage.

In a 400-175 vote, members of Parliament backed the second reading of legislation that would, as drafted, enable religious organizations to conduct same-sex marriages if they wish.

The bill will be up for further debate in the House of Commons. In order to become law, it has to clear further parliamentary hurdles, including a vote in the House of Lords.

"We believe that opening it up to same-sex couples will strengthen, not weaken, the institution. As David Cameron has said, we should support gay marriage not in spite of being Conservatives, but because we are Conservatives."
Would that American Conservatives would see the same light. Since they seem hell bent on self destruction I can't see them coming around anytime soon.

Clearly anyone with a brain realizes that same sex marriage would strengthen the institution of marriage. Even President Obama gets it.

The British haven't been relevant for the last century or so...

I mean, if a Brit jumped off a cliff, would you jump also ?

I've seen various statements in the internet about the number of Muslim MPs voting in favor of same-sex marriage, but haven't found a definitive statement. As best I can figure, four of the eight voted in favor, one against.

    Favor
    Anas Sarwar
    Shabana Mahmood
    Rushanara Ali
    Sajid Javid

    Opposed
    Rehman Chisti

Her Magesty Queen Elizabeth II would be quite upset with your assertion. I suppose it is hard for you to deal with the tide of public opinion that now favors same sex marriage. I know your party line but your posts seem to belie your public disclaimers.

'Relevant' to what? The word only has meaning when applied to the matter at hand. Queen Elizabeth would know that, seemingly kudzu doesn't. Then again, kudzu doesn't let his ignorance get in the way of another anti-Brit rant.

    No, you don't.

I mean, if the majority of the public thought that Obama was the Messiah, would you get on that bandwagon ?

Jon S had a bit on this last evening. Pretty funny, kept showing the MPs who were against the measure and was perplexed at the lack of references to how God hates homos and that this will inevitably lead to "dog on man" and people marrying their refrigerators.

Pretty bizarre. He sued some media outlet for publishing it. The reasonable reaction to which is "Oh gross!!!"

I'll go out on a limb and say that hitting anything over 40 is not something Grammer wants to do.

    Who does ?

    Just sayin'

I turned 40 quite a few years ago.

And I still have never had sex with a 40+ year old woman.

Hopefully, I'll never have to resort to that.

Backlash against Muslim MPs for voting in favor of same-sex marriage.

On February 5, 2013, the House of Commons voted — by 400 votes to 175, giving the bill a 225 majority — to legalise gay marriage in Britain. Muslim MPs Sadiq Khan, the Labour high-flyer, Rushanara Ali, Sajid Javid, Shabana Mahmood and Anas Sarwar voted for gay marriage. Benazir Bhutto’s former adviser Rehman Chishti voted against the move while Yasmin Qureshi and Khalid Mahmood MP abstained from voting, fearing opposition from their constituents.

At least three Pakistani clerics have said that these MPs needed to repent and renew their faith, which means that they stand expelled from the circle of Islam for supporting same sex marriages. They have also said that their Islamic marriages stand annulled and they needed to read Kalma again to become Muslims. The News understands that police forces in Britain have taken notice of the fatwas and the threats against the MPs. Also, the MPs have privately said that they fear for their lives after the delivery of fatwas on them by clerics.
There is also a report of a British imam issuing a fatwa, which calls Sadiq Khan "apostate." Such fatwas are seen as excuses to commit violent acts.

Other Muslims have condemned the threats on MPs.

Our Military Police must be kept safe.

Let's all band together on this one.

Men, women. Black, white. Homo, hetero.

    MP's have a serious duty.
