I agree they will have a tough time with Middletown and Mcdonough, will be good tight games, but 1a is weak all over mostly...Hereford is a interesting matchup too

Hereford is 3A, is it not? And 2A has some solid teams other than Middletown and McDonough. There is Douglass-PG, Gwynn Park, and Patuxent. I think all of them were at least 8- 2 last season and for several seasons they all have been in the playoffs battling it out with one another except for one recent season when GP was shut out of the playoffs at 8 and 2.

It will all come down to can Dunbar's coaching ability get them past some less talented but better coached teams.. They will always be superior in talent. Coaching for me will be the question. Moving to 2A only allows them to be deeper in talent..Wish them Well...

I completely undertand what you are saying and I think most folks equate better coaching with X's and O's. Yet I think better overall 2A discipline will be the issue for Dunbar to over come rather than pure X's and O's coaching. I say this because when I noted Dunbar have trouble with teams, it was essentially due to discipline issues rather than talent. Dunbar, for the most part, has always had the better overall man-for-man and postion-for-position talent and I think that will be the case in 2A and even 3A and 4A for that matter. But a good talented team will not be as effecttive against good disciplined talented teams, even against those who are not quite as talented. But I think Dunbar will do well in 2A. Unfortunately for Dunbar, something less than a title win or title game appearance would be seen as not doing well. But that's a good problem to have to me.

The coaches of teams like Gwynn Park, Patuxent, McDonough, Douglass-PG, Hereford, Middletown, and others will exploit an undisciplined Dunbar team even with superior talent. Believe me.

even if the coaching is better, Dunbar will handle Patuxent and Gwynn Park relatively easily, their not too impressive in my opinion, and Douglas-PG just cant seem to play the big boys tough, but they did get McDonough last yr. Middletown has showed their superior to me, but we'll see, I'm curious to see Hereford and Dunbar as I said before, either way it wont be a 1A cake walk anymore, even tho their regular season schedule is crap again

Yes, you really need to retract even more of those statements about Patuxent, Douglass-PG, Gwynn Park, and McDonough. All are very solid teams who would give Dunbar all it can handle and then some. They have played quite tough for many years and they usually fight it out every season with very rough games in the first couple rounds of the playoffs each season. While many have cake walks in the first round at times with something like a #1 seed playing a #4 seed who may be barely above .500, those four teams seem to go 8 and 2 at worse going at it in the playoffs. Regarding Douglass-PG not able to beat the big boys as you say, two seasons ago they where the #4 2A south region rep and had to go on the road three consecutive weeks and took down #1 and #2 seeds enroute to the title game against #1 overall seed Middletown. That was a daunting task to me and they simply ran out of gas against a very strong Middletown squad. Last season, Edmondson had some dirty play in the semi-final game that sent Douglass-PG to M&T badly injured and they had several players playing out of position or players who were backups or didn't play much needing to step up against a darn good team of Middletown again. Patuxent lost to Douglass in an earlier round on a 95-yard comeback field goal with 4-seconds left in that game. The season before, Patuxent the region #1 seed at 10-0 or 9 - 1, lost to Douglass on a fake punt late in that game when Patuxent was winning. Two seasons prior, Patuxent beat Douglass in the playoffs two years running. McDonough was the state champion a couple years ago when they beat Middletown. Gwynn Park was beaten last year by Douglass in the playoffs but it was Gwynn Park who soundly beat Douglass in the regular season by over 20 or so points. Even a season or so before that, Gwynn Park was arguably slated to cruise to a state title game after going 10-0 in the regular season including a win over Douglass and a win over McDonough in the first round of the playoffs in that season 11 game win streak. But Douglass, knocked off Gwynn Park in the second round. Douglass lost the following week to Eastern Tech who went on to win the 2A state title. The Douglass / Eastern Tech game was considered the title game since they were the two strongest teams thought to beat whoever else was the opponent at M&T.

The bottom line here is that those four teams battle it out with only one to emerge from the scorched earth nearly every season. Remember the season just a couple years ago when Gwynn Park went 8 and 2 and missed out of the playoffs in that rough 2A south region! And I'm hearing rumors that Patuxent and Douglass-PG are upping the ante with Patuxent taking on 4A Flowers to start the season and Douglass is going up against 4A state champion Wise.

And with Middletown a state runner-up followed by back-to-back state titles and you're curious to see Hereford and Dunbar in 2A!!!!!!

Yes, Patux and Douglas are upping the ante and they'll get smoked as well! All 4 teams are evenly matched due to equality as skill positons, but I only think Middletown and McDonough are the toughest challenges right NOW for Dunbar, not saying that 2-3 yrs from now. The yr Douglas-PG went on the road they beat an avg Kent Island and Glenelg who played soft schedules. All 4 teams will give Dunbar tougher problems then Forest Park, Surratsville, Forestville and even some decent New Town and Overlea teams did in the playoffs, but Middletown and McDonough to me will be the toughest in my opinion next yr...as far as Hereford goes yes, they're my schools rival, we don't like eachother, so Yea im curious to see how they handle size and speed like Dunbar has

To the couch sports fans, whenever a team losses to another then the losser is soft or average. You say Glenelg was soft or average but that was the same Glenelg team who beat 8 and 2 Gwynn Park the week before. Did I mention that Glenelg was in the playoffs the previous year and lost to Douglass. If not, I should have. That's not average sports fan. That's better than just average.

You say Patuxent and Douglass will get smoked by Flowers and Wise and that just may happen. Only time will tell but let me school you on some things. Wise and Douglass are just miles apart with pretty much the same community youth league kids actaully shared between Gwynn Park, Douglass, and Wise and the schools are almost in the shadows of each other. One is not all that different than the other and until the last couple years, Wise players were Douglass players when Douglass was 4A before Wise was built and Douglass was reduced to 2A over night. 4A is NOT evenly matched in south region. Like all other league/regions, there are 3 or 4 good teams and the rest are average or bait. Wise, Flowers, Suitland, and Roosevelt are the better teams and the others are always 10 games and the season is over. Douglass and Gwynn Park at 2A would beat the other 8 or so 4A south teams consistently and be very competitive against the top 4. No doubt. Moreover, Douglass and Flowers JV played last year and Douglass "smoked" Flowers with twice the numbers on the Douglass squad and I'm telling you that Douglass' varsity would have laid some wood on Flowers' varsity so 4A and 2A mean nothing there. Oh, and Douglass' JV also smoked 4A Northwestern last year and the season before that. Did I mention Douglass' JV was undefeated last season and they have lost only a couple games in several years. So they have a good solid program there. And Patuxent and Douglass are well or evenly matched and have been so for many years. Patuxent will not be a mere push over for Flowers and they can beat Flowers without much surprise. The Patuxent head coach's son should be their starter QB this coming season and that kid can flat out play! Tyler Crounse is his name and I'm looking forward to some good stuff from him.

McDonough is a solid team BUT not all that like you think. They are good front runners. They were soundly beaten by Gwynn Park in the playoff last year but they had a win against North Point on a fluke and should have lost that game. And they did lose against Patuxent. McDonough didn't even make the playoffs the season before coming off a title year but they lost a lot of senior players then. Moreover, I heard the McDonough head coach stepped down but I haven't bothered to confirm that rumor. Anyone know?

You must not have been around much to wonder what Hereford will do against size and speed. Hereford is a hardcore blue collar type team who tend to have trouble against teams that are just as strong but faster. Get into a slug fest with Hereford and you play right into their hands. Run around and don't tire out and Hereford is in trouble. Hereford just hasn't shown much in a couple years to warrant touting a must see match with Dunbar. I'd rather see Dunbar against the likes of Middletown, Douglass, Gwynn Park, Patuxent, and River Hill before even thinking of Hereford.

My answer was originally longer but I timed out, I'm not retyping it, anyways that couch joke was good! NOT, the Hereford team u call blue collar and tough, I played against, I Know football, Mcdonough, and Middletown are better challenges for Dunbar this yr, yall need to stop heckling ppl abt their opinion and name calling bc its ****ing retarded, that's all that's on these msg boards! don't care abt PG football facts! Glenelg played two good teams that yr, lost to River Hill, who beat two overmatched teams in the playoffs and state title game in TJ who lost to Middletown like 50-12! Glenelg also lost to Douglas badly in the playoffs! Patux, Gwynn, Douglas-PG will hang but Middletown and Mcdonough will challenge them more..kids switching schools isn't an argument, that many kids left to make a 2a- 4a classification difference? that's like 500 kids at least if it hadn't happened this argument doesn't occur but it did...you obviously have a diff definition of what good football is, congrats, just bc someone differs in opinion doesn't mean their wrong, its a fact those teams beat up on each other and lose to good teams come playoff time and the occasional tough game on the schedule...Middletown has proven their up for the challenge and match-up wise right now I feel Mcdonough will be a bit tougher then Patux, Gwynn and Douglas against Dunbar! those 3 can beat Mcdo all they want, doesn't mean they'll beat Dunbar and Mcdonough cant...

and the point here isn't about how Douglas was once 4a when wise was built 7 yrs ago, a new generation of players has gone through with 6 new graduation classes at least, if Wise had never been built then we wouldn't be talking abt this like I said, instead wise was built, and now were talking abt teams competing with Dunbar in 2a

The point I tried to make to you is that Wise, Gwynn Park, and Douglass essentially have the same players who are from the same group of youth teams. They know each other very well and most live in the same communities. Literally speaking, kids on one side of a street go to one school while kids on the other side of the street attend another school. So when you say Wise has something over Douglass and Gwynn Park player "wise", then you are wrong. The difference is who they play in the regular season. Wise played ONLY other 4A South PG teams while Douglass and Gwynn Park played 1A, 2A, 3A , and privates. Come playoff time, the first two rounds are most likely against teams they played in the regular season in 4A South. 2A Douglass and 2A Gwynn Park could and have played teams from other conferences each round of the playoffs to the title game. The feeder youth programs for Wise is essentially the same for Gwynn Park and essentially the same for Douglass. The UM Gators, Marlboro Mustangs, Patuxent Rhinos, KLM Steelers, etc feed the same players to those same schools.

I just don't know what you see in McDonough to proclaim them with or on competitive par with Middletown and ready for Dunbar. McDonough was launched in the first round of the playoffs. Gwynn Park beat them soundly from start to finish. They weren't even in the playoffs the season before. Rumor has it they will have a new coach in the coming season. And you think they are quite ready to take it to the Poets along with Hereford who also hasn't burst a grape in a couple seasons. Yeah right!

Dunbar would run Hereford off the feild in the second half...and you can take this one to the bank..the Bulls just don't have the talent at the skilled positions to keep the game close....Mcdonough is a different story...they have a tad more more talent at the skilled positions and better coaching then Hereford..they would throw so many wrinkles at the Poets, the poets would think they were in a Algrebra 4 workshop...
