Pediatricians ask about the water temp coming out of the spigots, they ask about steps, accessibility to electrical outlets and to household cleaning materials. They are not plumbers, construction workers or electricians.

I've raised five kids and have never had a Pediatrician offer any such unsolicited advice! Guess my Pediatricians over the years were piss poor. But, I always had enough sense to know what was best for my kids and how to protect them. You guys and girls are welcome to seek advice from whom ever you wish, I have and always will seek the expert in the field of the topic I'm interested in.

I've been asked about guns in the house by several Dr's. The Dr's were unrelated in pracatice and a few were pediatricians.

What kind of quacks have you been dealing with?

I would add SAFETY training to the list of requirments for anybody that wants to own a gun.

All of those types can be prevented. The owner of the gun should be locked up for a long time.

I think it's a part of a doctor's job to ask intrusive questions. Maybe not about guns, but about lifestyle issues. "Do you smoke, drink alcohol, use illegal drugs ... ?"

And yes, I've been asked at hospitals if I feel safe in my home or have any domestic issues.

Of course they ask lifestyle questions, that is relevant. In hospitals they are required to ask about domestic violence in the home. But I have never been asked about guns in the home.
